No Icons on desktop
« on: February 12, 2006, 11:42:00 AM »
For some reason, my mom\'s computer has no icons at all on her desktop.

If I go into explorer and look at what should be on her desktop, there is a lot.  But for some reason her background is completely clean.

Where is this option?  I can\'t find it anywhere.
I wear a necklace now because I like to know when I\'m upside down.

I went with the "clean" desktop for a while and found it to be more trouble than it\'s worth.  Now I can\'t get my recycle bin back... I have the shortcut, but I want the actual bin back

anyone know how?

the only way that u can move the rec bin from the desktop was through a registry setting IIRC.  Try Googling it and they should show you how to bring it black.

And just fyi, I could NEVER get the registry setting to work, I want bin gone! :(

I think the "TweakUI" powertoy application provided by Microsoft includes checkboxes to let you enable or disable the system icons like My Computer, My Network Places, Recycle Bin, etc.

Well I agree completely.  What I do a lot though is when someone sends me email or something and I just want to see something quick, I will drag it to the desktop, look at it and then move it where I want it or get rid of it.

Problem was I was dragging it and it was gone. But it was really there if you go through your documents and settings directory.
