Before i start, i started out with an EVGA Geforce 6600GT 128MB.

I asked a question on another forum, and some guy talked to me about how he had two Gigabyte Geforce 6600GT 128MB (same card..different company) that hed give to me for free, but id have to pay for shipping (was only 25 bucks..and i wanted to try SLI).

I took out my EVGA and put in the two gigabyte cards, and everything worked out fine. But i read, after i put the two cards in, that it seemed like i could mix the EVGA one and one of the gigabytes, instead of both gigabyte, as long as their the same card. So im just curious if i can do that?

The reason id probaly want to do that is becaus EVGA is a better company, and im going to give a friend of mine the left over 6600GT.

On a side note..i dont really notice a difference with SLI (probably because the 128MB isnt good to begin with..but i dont notice a difference from 1 card to 2). I can run BF2 on 1280x1024, but i also got a second gig of ram in the last week so im not sure if i can do 1280x1024 because of the ram or because of the SLI. COD2 i could also run on 1280x1024 with everything on high but it got choppy when there was huge amounts of gunfire/explosions/etc.

yes you can, the 82.00 or so drivers granted the ability to mix manufacturers.

just use the most recent WHQL drivers

you wont notice much of an improvment doubling budget cards.

you\'re better off selling them individually and getting a single 7900gt

iiim kinda lazy. And iv never done ebay. It\'d probably be the most stripped down ad and i wouldnt get as much as other people probably do since they can make nice pages.

My friend is giving me 25 bucks for the one card, so i pretty much got the sli for free..ghost recon/bf2/cod2 all run nicely on my computer so i think im done buying new stuff. Had a huge performance increase after getting the second gig of ram.

Thanks though. Might as well put the eVGA in.

meh..was playing bf2 last night for a few hours and all of a sudden my game froze, then went to a blue screen about how my video card failed er something. I didnt really get it.

the "correction to the problem" was 1) update the drivers (which they were..but i did it again anyway or 2) manually fix something (i dont trust myself).

Going to play for a while tonight..if it happens again im putting the eVGA in and calling it a day. 25 bucks wasnt bad..just figure i wouldve bought a couple cd\'s that would cost that much..now i wont buy them.

welp. I installed GRAW (awesome game btw) and was getting these weird graphics flahses that were pruple/green/even rainbow. Took the two gigabyte cards out, stuck my one eVGA in and it runs perfectly. Im actually even seeing less jaggies.

o well..was worth a try..

have you alternated each gigabyte card with the evga one?

I thought about doing that, but i was in a rush to get the situation fixed so i could play GRAW, which i bought today.

Might try putting in one of the gigabyte cards in this weekend, or ill just hand them off to a friend. Everything seems to be running exactly the same as it did with 2 cards in there, so i might not.
