He wants to get ready for Elder Scrolls IV.  It\'s an upgrade so he has a case, montior, mouse and whatnot.

CPU: AMD 3800+ X2

CPU Cooler: Zalman  CNPS7000B-ALCU 92mm

Mobo: Either...

- DFI LanParty UT nF4-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4
- Asus A8N-E
- ASUS A8N5X (any big difference between the Asus\'s here?)

Ram: Kingston HyperX 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR 400

Vid Card: eVGA 7800GT

GPU cooler: Arctic Cooling NV5 Silencer

PSU: Antec TruePowerII 550W

Seems to be a nice mid-range gaming system.. Whatcha think?

TODAY!

Check newegg, they have them and the retail is around 299-349.. not bad at launch.  Some of these are factory overclocked up to 550mhz on the core.  Stock on these is 450.  Plus the memory on these gets a huge boost from 1100 on the 7800gt to 1500-1600 on the 7900gt.  And it has 24 pipes instead of 20.. benchmarks are 10-15% faster than the 7800gtx.

Anyone want to buy a 7800gt ;)

Of course they did.  I just bought a 7800 last week.  But I finally got a card to work with my Avid software so I\'m happy.  This is the 4th card I\'ve had in this computer in 3 weeks.

no worries, the 7800 is still a beast

oh and I would double the ram (2x1gb), i\'ve definately noticed I lost all hitching and hiccups in my gaming since

Looks fine, but a RAM bump to 2 gigs would be fine. Also, get the 7900 GT as the other guys said.
