Who would you vote for?
I was thinking today of what I would want in a presidential candidate.
I decided on someone who made plans for a full 8 years and beyond.
First, get our troops in Iraq to cover for each other as they put hammers to nails and start rebuilding parts of the country. Set up a small permanent military base and use it to continue training Iraqi police as we then take the bulk of our guys out of there.
Next couple years, with the money not being spent on war, go spend a few billion to clean up New Orleans and brace it for an even bigger hurricane.
Then shift attention back to New York and turning world trade center concepts into steel beams, bolts, buildings and businesses.
Finally, in the last year or two of the 8 years, really focus on eliminating our debts. The previous 6 years will have created new jobs and brought in more tax money through wages and consumer purchases. Continue by cutting spending to programs, eliminating the crazy costs we might have left in Iraq, and raising taxes to the segments of the population that can most afford to help out.
For abortion, I say make it legal following a rape, when the mother could die during birth, or during the first trimester. After that, adoption is an option for those who cannot raise a child.
For illegal immigration I say we try encouraging legal immigration. Come live here, help rebuild New Orleans, settle, make money for your family back home. We don\'t need a wall, we need an Ellis Island.
And Canadians are encouraged to come pitch in too. ;]
Gay marriage? Go ahead. I just want the taxes, please. But to compromise, let\'s legally call it something like a civil union. However, feel free to have ceremonies expressing whatever relgious beliefs you hold. That\'s your right.
A final note to countries that are in-fighting, attacking other countries or flexing their nuclear muscles - stop it.
Vote for me?
Or Pedro.
