This is going to be bland im afraid but maybe someone has had the same problem. When the situation occurs this is what happens: the computer COMPLETELY locks up within half a second, itunes stutters to a stop, the mouse judders to a halt and the only thing that can be done is to swith the thing off at the mains.

This can happen at anytime, sometimes it happens on the XP screen as the computer is loading up (usually this is after a previous crash), on the Chldsk utility that runs or just as i login or just during normal running of the computer, ie its not like im using any memory hungry programs.

The funny thing is that this only sems to happen within an hour of the computer being switched on, like if its been on for over about and hour then it wont crash in this way (touch wood).

I have run every virus scan and spyware scan, nothing.

Any ideas guys? this is really pissing me off.

It seems to be an event caleld "TrueVector Sevice" thats causing the problems, a component of Zone Alarm, cheers mm didnt know about event logs. Ive had a look around google but i can only seem to find details on dealing with the problem for the pro edition of Zone Alarm, im not 100% sure this is the problem tho, as how could this component of ZA be crashing the computer when its only at the Windows loading screen? ie as soon as the computer is turned on.

This kinda shit was happenening to me too. I opened up my case and found it was full of dust, causing some fans to not work right and the computer to overheat.

ZoneAlarm will slow your computer the f^ck down. I\'ve had way too many problems with it on slower computers. It would freeze the computer quite frequently. Uninstalled it and everything was fine.

If you don\'t see an antivirus you\'re using listed on that page, don\'t use it. ZoneAlarm is not on that list. AVG is, though.

I\'ve heard of lots of people having problems with zonealarm, someone was telling me that she had problems viewing web pages with it, it kept blocking images from loading, even when it was set to allow images.

That has to do with the settings in ZoneAlarm. It can be fixed by changing privileges and whatnot. If you don\'t have it set up right, some images won\'t load properly on various webpages.

Those are all free (firewall apps). Try different ones out. AVG is fine for anti-virus; it is certified.

I use avg free, it\'s the dogs bollocks.

It finds shit that norton misses every now and then.

I use Trend Micro PC-cillin. It\'s 50 bucks though, but it\'s damn good.
