Problem hooking up my Sega Genesis - RF Adapter question
« on: October 01, 2006, 08:27:19 AM »
OK guys, need some advice.

I got a new Sega Genesis 1 (the original model) and hooked it up.

I attached the RF adapter to my NES adapter which runs through my Atari adapter and into the VCR.

I turned the VCR on and turned the Genesis on. Picture and sound came on for a couple seconds and then cut out. But if I turn the VCR off and on again, the picture and sound return for another coupel seconds before cutting out.

Next I tried hooking the Genesis RF adaptor right to my satellite antenna in which goes right to the tv. When I switched DirecTV to antenna in, the sound and picture came on for a couple seconds and cut out. It returned whenever I went back to antenna, but always cuts out after a couple seconds.

So it looks like the RF adapter is always passing the signal, but for some reason it still cuts out.

Any help? Is a new RF adapter the solution?

i guess that might rules out the rfu input from either the vcr or the tv...so that means it might be the RFU cable/adapter is faulty or your sega genesis rfu output is faulty.

Try a new RFU adapter/cable and see if it helps.  If not, just return it for a full refund...

How did you get a Genesis new?
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

It\'s new to me. I replaced a new to me Sega Genesis 2 that in hindsight probably had the same problem, but I figured it was defective.

I thought the last Genesis was defective and I threw it and its cables in the garbage.  That\'s what really makes me wonder what\'s wrong.  But I\'ll start by getting a replacement RF cable...

forgive my english, but i am kind of lost of what is really going on here...

genesis new?  genesis 1 and genesis 2?  what are those?  I thought there is only one Sega Genesis.  Unless you are talking about Sega CD or Sega Saturn or something?...or slim model of genesis?  Also, how many sega genesis did you own?

Last but not least, did the NES and Atari work on your tv?

Edit:  Oh, how about temporarily use the NES RF adapter/cable and hook it up to your sega genesis and see if it works...

So right now I have the original and it is acting up.

I had "revise 1" and threw it away, although in hindsight I think it was doing the same thing...

Paul that\'s an interesting idea about using the NES adapter. If the plug works with the console, I\'ll try that.
