Worth getting the HD-DVD drive?
« on: November 10, 2006, 12:17:11 AM »
If i play the 360 through a sumsung 19" LCD monitor, will i notice a difference in movies to make the HD-DVD drive look HD?

http://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-SyncMaster-Flat-Panel-Monitor-930B/dp/B0009292SA is my monitor btw

Like, xbox 360 looks amazing on my monitor, but i still think gears of war could look amazing x 2 with an HDTV. So would the HD-DVD drive be worth it?

its not really a question of money, since i can spend the 200 on it. Im just thinking practically if it\'s worth it.

The HD-DVD drive is for watching HD-DVD movies only. You can view Gears of War in high definition if you have a high definition tv. No add-on required.

Completely untrue. HD dvd will look crisper, no blocky images, more detail and best of all less artifacts that mpeg2 causes with dvd.

I think what mm is saying is that 19 inch is small in that it doesnt take full advantage of the resolution hd dvd offers, however you must keep in mind that if  you are watching your movies sitting right in front of your monitor the HD dvd will look much better. IF your sitting back away from your monitor then you might as well just stick will DVD.

The fact that your using a 19inch 4:3 makes things alot worse in your situation, as your monitor will be displaying half it\'s resolution when playing widescreen movies.
