^^^i agree as well..nintendo should just stay within their element and just stay within their gaming model....as far as ms chargin\' $139 to fix their console? this is nothing new...half of these new virus threats on your pc are created by the same guys who sell you the upgrades to protect against them...
knowledge, wisdom & understanding..these are the basic fundamentals of life

if you can\'t amaze them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh*t....

They might issue software online or just a new retail version that plays DVDs.

Sink, line and hooker.

Won\'t cost me a dime unless it\'s an automatic update that breaks the console and then they charge me to repair it.

But that would never happen. Borderline illegal, in my opinion.

microsoft isn\'t any different, i\'ll give them less than a year till they step all over any denial of releasing a xbox 360 with a built in HD-DVD drive and/or require it for games.

I honestly wouldn\'t be surprised. I mean they\'re probably making a lot of money off this botched upgrade. I don\'t see why they are charging though. I can see a class action lawsuit on their hands. When a company releases an upgrade and fucks up a console, THEY should be held responsible to repair it, not the consumer. That just isn\'t right.

It took less than a year for games to start requiring the HDD in the 360 (final fantasy XI, football manager), my guess is that with huge 20-25 GB games coming out on PS3, you will see some 360 game developers wanting to do the same and striking out on their own with HD-DVD requiring games.

And didn\'t Microsoft say they weren\'t gonna have games that needed the hard drive?

Too bad a game for HD-DVD wouldn\'t sell and would cost more to make.

I wouldn\'t hold my breath.

And those two exceptions to the harddrive thing hardly amount to anything, but it does still go against what Microsoft promised, I suppose.

Microsoft told developers to make their games without the assumption the HDD would be there.  It\'s up to the developers how they use accessories; same as something like eyetoy or the HDD on the PS2.

I highly doubt HD-DVD games on the 360.  The userbase would be so small, and it goes against the notion that Microsoft is trying to move everything over to being digitally distributed.  They\'ve already announced HD Movies and TV shows being distributed over Live, and it\'s only a matter of time before full size games make it, too.  If there are any HD-DVD games it\'s because the developer made that decision.
