Bad News

Toshiba dropped a bomb on its SED tech.  Apparently it costs a helluva lot to produce, so it will be only sold in the professional market.

Good News

Sony puts its money where its mouth is and shows off its OLED displays.

Quote
I saw it this afternoon, and was floored.

Imagine the best LCD panel you\'ve ever seen. And then picture it with the blackest blacks, the whitest whites, and the highest resolution you\'ve ever seen. That sums up this display.

The size of the display is just icing on the cake.

This may sound like hyperbole, but after seeing this display, every single plasma and LCD at the show looked like yesterday\'s news.

yeah, those oled screens are getting rave reviews everywhere i\'ve read about them today.  I\'m curious to see how long it takes them to get the sizes up above 27" and what the pricing will be.  Well.. that and the fact that the screens don\'t last very long.. yet.

I heard that with OLED screens, you can roll it up like a wallpaper and carry it around.  And the These OLED TVs are very thin, and doesn\'t matter how big the screen size is.  The thickness remains the same.

But I am really surprise about this 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.  Is that even possible?

Its sad that SED is having difficult right now, and according to your article, SED TV won\'t come out until late this year, but for only professional market...

for broadcasting the LCD screens are horrible.  I TD\'d a multi camera shoot the other day and you really have no clue whaat your image truely looks like.  You still have to have a good CRT.

The OLED screen has 100%+ color spectrum of NTSC. So it should be ok for broadcasting I guess.
