PS3 and Heat
« on: February 17, 2007, 02:43:34 PM »
Quick question for those who own a PS3. I\'ve noticed the fans kicking on sometimes which is normal. Sometimes though they kick into overdrive and they\'re loud. I\'ve been watching a BR movie this afternoon to check it out and when the fans came on the movie froze for a bit. Do I return this sucka or is this normal stuff? I\'m betting it\'s screwed.

Thanks!

just did a quick search (i dont have a ps3).

sounds like it happens with the upgdade to 1.50. Did you notice it before you upgraded? (if you did)

if not..sony might fix it. They did for me when my launch ps2 crapped out

Mine has never done that. However, my living space is set at 68-70 degrees. And it\'s not confined or near other electronics that also give off heat.

Sure. When it dosn\'t arrive you\'ll know it\'s from me. ;)

I do have it in a cabinet but it has tons of room and the 360 is in a similar compartment without trouble. I may just return it while I can for a new one and then if it does it again I may need to keep the door open on the cabinet while it\'s on. It kind of freaks me out, though, how loud the fans can get when it\'s crying out for help.

I have a launch Ps3, with all the updates, and i fall asleep with a blu-ray movie on, and when i wake up, i notice no problems. The only thing i notice, is that it is much quieter than xbox 360.

Hmm, my unit starts out quiet but then ramps up. I did notice the other day when I kept the door open on the cabinet it did not go fan crazy. Is your PS3 in a cabinet or out in the open?

Well then keep the cabinet door open when playing/watching a movie. You need to have good air circulation. I\'m not a fan of enclosed casing for electronics for heating reasons.

Reminds me of the old doctor joke. Hey Doc, when I lift my arm it hurts. Doc:Then don\'t lift your arm. Well, it was something like that.

Anyway, the thing seems to be a heat pig. I\'ve been running the PS3 now for two hours with the door open and it seems fine. By the way, cabinet it sits in is quite big and a tight fit at all. :)

Well I think you solved your own problem. :thumb:

The PS3 is an energy/heat beast, that\'s for sure. I never had any loud fan problems with it though. It\'s actually been relatively quiet.
