1) It\'s NOT as easy as they make it seem, they after all can show you only the successful bumps. Much like brushing or using a pick gun, this technique takes practice. At the end of the day, most illegal entry is break and enter, because if you have a quiet/unseen back door, it\'s about 5 seconds to kick in or crowbar most doors, and most thieves are not interested in entering without damaging the house. As such, the best deterrent is visibility.
2) You need one bump key per manufacturer/key type, although yes, you can make one at home if you know how and buy a blank.

Medeco keys are the first, they\'re not as expensive as that show implied, you can buy a Medeco cylinder and keys for about 75 USD (just to replace within an existing deadbolt). The second is good neighborhood watch systems, just getting to know even one or two neighbors makes a big difference. Make sure you have visible entries, ie don\'t grow trees and shrubs all around your house... it won\'t matter how good your lock is if someone can take their time and pry your frame away from the door.
