Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
« on: April 15, 2007, 05:11:28 AM »
any other MMORPG nerds looking forward to this game?

I\'ve played WoW for about 2 years. I got Rank 14 High Warlord in pvp (under the old system) last june. Ever since then my interest in Warcraft has been steadily declining.

I\'m huge into PvP (player versus player), and Warcrafts pvp is simply put...a joke. No matter how good you are at Warcraft, if another player has better gear than you then you will lose. I don\'t like that, I like at least some skill in the game to come through.

I don\'t mind grinding for gear, it is a buisness and they want you to keep on playing. I understand that and i\'m fine with that. Problem is when Warcrafts expansion launched they really destroyed all the gear you can get from PvP. It is barely better than level 60 gear and really isn\'t worth the time to get.

Then they introduced the arena, which is nothing more than a glorified duel. Coupled in with the cross server battlerealms, it makes for a painful experience. Nothing but trash and shit talking day in day out.

I go to work, I come home I do whatever needs to be done for my classes the next day. Go for a jog and then I play on my PC until I go to sleep. I am far from what could be considered rich or "well off" so I chose to pay for the internet each month rather than televison. It is my source of entertainment. Luckily my gf loved Warcraft aswell so not having a TV wasn\'t much of a discussion in our house :)

Anyways, that is why I enjoy MMORPGs, even tho i\'ve only played 2. I like playing a game that technically doesn\'t end. Always gives me something to do. Back to my original point, I get my most enjoyment out of pvp. Which is where Warhammer comes in. Its a MMORPG based entirely around PvP. There is PvE stuff aswell (player versus enviroment) such as quests and dungeons and crap like that. But its not the main focus of the game, you can level up your character in pvp which I think is awesome.

Also they expect you to PvP right from the get go, you can jump in and start killing other players right at level 1. The dudes making this game are the ones who made Dark Age of Camelot. I\'ve heard from lots of people that back in the day, DAOC was a great game but they eventually screwed it up. I personally have never played it so I can\'t comment.

I like how in the podcasts the developers of the game are quick to admit the mistakes they made with DAOC and don\'t plan on repeating the past.

They also have one dude, Paul Barnett who is a producer (I think) and is always making videos for the public and updating things about the game until its realease. He is pretty much the face of Warhammer Online. Something which Warcraft does not have. Warcraft is just the big faceless Blizzard corp who have really let me down since the release of The Burning Crusade.

Blizzards attitude to fixing problems in Warcraft is to simply nerf classes over and over. All classes, so you kind of play with the felling that "This is cool, but I wonder if i\'ll be able to do this in a month from now".

Is the home page for the game and if there anyone else here (I know there is a few of you nerds) who digs MMORPGs and PvP then I would really suggest checking it out.

The game doesn\'t come out until fall 2007, unless of course it gets delayed. But still, if anyone else is interested when that time rolls around i\'d love to play with any of you guys (*giggle*) who plan on joining up.

Haven\'t really read much about this one... However, if I had the time to play MMORPGS, I\'d probably check out Lord of the Rings: Online.

You can download the LotR beta right now Sammy. 4gb tho haha.

The beta will be playable until it goes live, in about a week.

Thanks, but I already downloaded it... twice. Only for my crappy PC to crash each time I tried to install it. And I don\'t want to reinstall Windows just yet (waiting for an external drive so I can backup my shit).

Oh well. It was probably for the better though. I might just have been caught up in Tolkien\'s universe and I don\'t have time for that right now. :)

eeek. Everything that people that were in beta post since the NDA is lift claim that LOTR Online terribly suck. I, for one, would hate to play with Frodo, frrodo and froddo and Phrodo and.. you get the point.

Problem with LOTR is that even though the world is at war, only one bunch of them are heroes. The rest are just figurants.

Warhammer and Warcraft (and also Conan coming soon) as this thing where the world is at war and everyone can be the hero.

Age of Conan looks awesome too. But Warhammer is catching my interest more and more each day.

Conan gets awesome points for having an M rating tho.

As opposed to, say, World of Warcraft? I don\'t really see what the problem is. I\'d just like to be part of the Tolkien universe (IF the game is/was any good and so on).

The problem is, how will be find you in the LOTR MMORPG?  You\'ll be lost among all the others, like Samwize, Sammwise, Samweisse, SSamwisse etc.  :)

I\'ve been reading some Robert E. Howard stories lately, so a Conan game sounds interesting to me.  Hyborian Wizards could be cool.

Sadly both Warhammer and Age of Conan are still months away :( and I won\'t go back to FF Online...

My WoW account expires in a month, I just use it now to harass people until I get banned or suspended. If i\'m not banned in a month, I think i\'ll ticket a GameMaster and cuss em out.

and no I don\'t care how juvenile that is.

I\'ve heard from lots of people that back in the day, DAOC was a great game but they eventually screwed it up. I personally have never played it so I can\'t comment."

I put maybe 200+hours into DAOC...at time it was frustrating...but when you were pvping...sometimes it was utterly amazing. The problem was that every expansion meant to had to log long hours into PVE so you could compete in PVP. Leveling form 1-50 was hard but they made it easier. Too little too late.

"Collision detection

Warhammer Online will feature collision detection, but only against enemy targets. This means a player will be able to "walk through" friendly players and NPCs but will be unable to walk through enemy targets. This feature will enhance the role played by heavily armored characters known as "tanks," as it will help them become far more efficient at holding choke points and thus protect weaker players in their group such as healers and casters"

In DAOC you could walk through opponents causing them to miss a styled melee swing or a full cast...was really annoying and I\'m glad they\'re fixing it.

Yeah fuck I might be addicted to this.

Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

In Everquest you couldn\'t run pass Players because of collision. So people were using big race type or growth spell to block in dungeon passageway hehe.. good times.

That sounds pretty awesome jump. I didn\'t read anything about the collison detection but I can understand that would be one hell of an annoying way to miss a kill. Nice to see its being addressed.

I wish they would release the system specs for this thing soon. As I said I don\'t got a lot of cash so if I need to save up for an upgrade i\'d like to know about it in advance.
