Recommend a digital camcorder

Alright, so someone recommend me a good digital camcorder in the price range of $400 - $500.  I have never owned one, but the wife wants one for our anniversary, so I guess I\'m stuck buying one.

I\'d prefer to have one with a HD / Memory stick, as opposed to tapes. It doesn\'t have to be fancy, as we\'ll only use it to record the girls birthday / other craptacular life events.

Should be fine. I prefer anything Canon, though but with Panas, you can\'t go wrong either. Most of the camcorders have firewire, so you\'re good. The only thing about these light weight camcorders is that they jitter a lot. Using the anti-shake actually reduces the quality of the videos a bit.

You think I\'m going to hold it?
Screw that, I am gonna just throw it on a tripod, put the kids down, tell them to eat their cake there and not move.  Will use duct tape, if I must (on them - not the camera, it costs to much to use a cheap measure like duct tape on!).

May do that. Hell, at worse I could give \'em nyquil and induce the scene.
Anyone know how much nyquil to give a 24 month old? Or two in my case.



Speaking of scenes, I\'m thinking see\'ing as this is an anniversary present, that there should be some good ole bow-chicka-wow-wow scenes goin\' on the night. Be a great time to try the damn thing out.
