PC Upgrade
« on: December 17, 2007, 11:09:12 AM »
Hey guys, about time for a PC upgrade,

Current set up: Windows XP
                     AMD Athlon XP 1800+
                     512MB RAM
                     NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440

A few choices to upgrade to, would like some advice:

Have no idea what processors are "good", all i know is im sick of the speed of my current computer, any suggestions? this is about my price range:

Intel E6750 2.66Ghz 1333Mhz £124.99 OR

Intel E6320 1.86Ghz L £109.99?

1GB RAM, would 2GB be more sensible?

Also my graphics card is ancient, any recommendations on a cheap new one, i never play games...ever, so that doesn\'t come into it.

Cheers guys.

If you never play games, 2GB should do you well.

And the more expensive processor, there.

if you don\'t play pc games, don\'t bother upgrading the graphic card yet.  your old graphic card show works well.

if the intel cpus you mentioned are dual cores or quad cores.  they are worthy to look at.

that video card is prolly AGP and won\'t fit onto newer motherboard. You can get something really cheap like a Nvidia 8300gs or 8600 for just about 100$

As for the RAM, you\'d be better invest 2x1gig

For the CPU the Intel E6750 is better, and if you can sqeeze more money, buying a better CPU will keep you satisfied for a while :) The intel Core2 Quad Q6600 is really good.
can\'t see why not!

Of the CPU\'s you show, the Intel E6750 2.66Ghz 1333Mhz is definitely nice. A quad core is even better, but that might be beyond your price limit. They have come down in price though. :)

Also, at LEAST get 2 gigs of RAM, it\'s so cheap it\'s ridiculous.

As for graphics card, just get any PCI-E card that fits your price range, I\'m sure they all perform about the same when it comes to 2D stuff.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAPETIME!
(thanks Chizzy!)
