Computer Freezing/Hanging Issue
« on: January 28, 2010, 08:38:33 AM »
So my computer started freezing intermittently about a week ago, It would happen at any time seemingly at random.  If you waiting 20-30 seconds the computer would resume what it was doing.  While frozen you could still move the mouse cursor around and click on things, but the computer wouldn\'t respond until about 30 seconds later, and everything you clicked on during that time would rapidly happen as the computer "caught up" to your actions during the pause.

I figured it was an OS issue or a driver issue, I tried updating several different drivers (video card, chipset) to no avail.  So I went ahead and reformatted and reinstalled windows 7 64bit home premium.

Well low and behold it is still freezing intermittently after the fresh reinstall.  I then tested my RAM by taking out all 4 sticks and trying out single 2GB sticks at a time, and it still freezes.  So RAM is out as the culprit.

I am going to switch out video card shortly after I get my hands on a cheapo PCI-E card to eliminate my video card being the issue.  There isn\'t much left besides replacing the hard drive & motherboard.

Anybody run into something similar to this?  Any ideas on anything else to try?  I\'m running out of patience

sounds to me like a mobo issue. run a search on your mobo model and freezing issues

heh, good idea

Did a quick search of my motherboard with freezing issues and found another forum where he had exactly the same problem as me.

Turned out it was his videocard!  If that is the case then i\'ll happily buy a ati 5850 if it will solve my freezing issues.

It\'s more than likely the video card.  I just had to replace mine with the same exact symptom.
