Question...
« on: February 27, 2008, 12:35:11 PM »
I have a question,...but i think i already know the answer, but hear it goes....my sisters harddrive burnt out on her and she had the xp operating system on it,...so she went and purchased a new dell harddrive...but the problem is that this new dell harddrive has vista on it and she basically can\'t do anything on it, at first she couldn\'t send documents to her email and other various features that she was able to do with xp,...she called support and they fixed some of the problems, but now she can\'t print anything off of her computer,...even the support people couldn\'t figure out why vista wouldn\'t connect with her printer and everything is hooked up properly.

She works from home so her job requires her to print off a bunch of documents from her computer, so the question is  since i have xp on my pc, is there any way to download xp from my pc to a disc so she can just download it?...the folks at best buy stated that she needed to send her pc out to have the harrdrive replaced then have xp downloaded back on it, but it was gonna cost her some loot.

She already spent some cash on that new harddrive that has vista on it, and since vista is givin\' her some headaches, i\'d figure i\'d try to give her a shortcut if i could download xp from my pc if possible,..if not, do any of you tech-heads have any solutions?...and i know this is kinda long, but i just wanted you guys to understand what the situation was... :fro:

I don\'t think thats possible..

I mean maybe you could shadow your drive and then throw it in her computer, but that might end up more of a headache what with the different hardware on the 2 computers.

try to update the firmware for Windows Vista for your new Dell HDD to see if it recognize your sister\'s printer.

If not, what brand and model is your sister\'s printer?  go to the brand printer\'s name website, and check if there is a firmware update for this specific printer to make it work on the Vista.

In a word, no.. You can\'t download XP of your machine and install it on the other pc. You\'ll have to get a Version of XP and install it from scratch. Why they said they needed to replace the hd to install XP is beyond me. All they need to do is format the drive and install XP. No new drive is needed.

Use google and see if anyone else has had a similar problem with the printer. I wouldn\'t be surprised if something is enabled or even disabled to prevent USB from communicating with the printer. I hate Vista. Its bloatware OS that sucks ass. I\'ve got a dual OS set up with XP / Vista and i\'ve disabled nearly everything in vista and its using more ram then it did before i disabled shit.  Fucken shit OS!!!

I have to assume she put the hard drive inthe freezer before installation..  I mean she is your sister and all.

It\'s supposed to open up the driver cab files.
