Sony game division posts profit.

Sony Computer Entertainment has now sold over 14.41 million PlayStation 3 units worldwide since it launched in 2006, according to financial documents released today.

The company sold 1.56 million PS3 consoles during the first quarter of its 2008 fiscal year, which ran from April 1 to June 30. At the end of Sony\'s 2007 fiscal year, over 12.85 million PS3 units had been sold worldwide.

As for the actual financials, Sony\'s Game division saw $2.16 billion in sales revenue--a 16.8% jump over last year--and posted a $51 million profit. The company stated this was an "improvement" over the $237 million it lost in Q1 2007, owing the reduction to better performance of "the PS3 business" and "strong sales of PSP hardware."

Quite impressed by how fast they turned this around, just a few months ago it was eating cash like a starved rodent.

Finally they broke even

I am quite surprised by their recovery program. It didnt start out well, but now it has increased its sales, support and its market image as well as improved its performance financially. It even sells at a faster rate worldwide than the 360 at a much more expensive price point

bundling mgs4 was the smartest decision they\'ve made IMO

but im a little suprised they did it that quickly too so there were other reasons. i thought it was going to take LBP, KZ2, and a few other games before they could break even

I am sure it will also benefit them if they offer special bundles with every release of their key titles like the ones you mentioned, keeping that way sales stimulated.

For example offer LBP, Killzone, GoW, Resistance 2, GT5 bundles etc with each title\'s release provided that the titles arent released simultaneously of course

Well, yes
Just wait for a significant price reduction and PS3 will sell like bread! (Just consider that Sony has sold as many PS3 as MS(XBox360) in Europe only with one full year of disadvantage and a significant higher price!)

ps: Sony already into development of the new Cell for PS4 (4 PPE and 32 SPE), probably ready in 2012-2013.
