April\'s Fool? PlayStation 2 price drop to $99.99?

The rumors came to fruition today as Sony started selling its Playstation 2 console for $99.99, down $30 from the previous pricing...

Finally, the price of the PS2 has dropped to $99.99, or it\'s April Fools?  Its been 3 years since the PS2 got a price drop.  Which took twice as long for the PS2 to have a price drop than the usual 18 months.

That thing should\'ve been $99.00 years ago.....either sony was still makin\' money off of it at i think the price was $129.00 or they NEEDED to keep the ps2 that price since they are still takin\' a loss on the ps3...in any case as much as they are hurtin\' with the ps3, that console needs a price drop!.....while it\'s great to hear that ps2 finally gets a price drop, it\'s definitely too little too late and at the very least, a price drop for both consoles would\'ve garnered a bigger impact.

$399.00 for a console, especially in this economic environment is still incredibly high....next time hopefully sony will just make a gaming console, and leave all of the extra all in one bulls**t out of it....that way they won\'t have to charge so much....these things are  gaming systems, and ultimately that\'s all i ever wanted anyway, being able to watch blu ray movies is a nice touch, but if i wanna watch movies i have a dvd player for that and the same goes for blu ray.

And if that means giving us a cheaper console then so be it. I think only the hardcore folks care about it being able to play blu-ray or dvd movies..i could really care less...i don\'t think it\'s worth to bombared these systems with the latest and greatest, knowing that within a few years most companies are already workin\' on the next console...for me personally,..just upgrade the hardware/graphical and performance and processing abilities and i\'m happy.

Since the PS2 sold well, it\'s a smart business move from Sony not to drop the price to $99.99 until the demand is getting really low which probably seems to be the case and then Sony made the move.  Kind of like how Nintendo didn\'t bother reducing the price of the $250 Wii at all since it still in high demand.

About PS3 getting a price drop, it might get a price drop, but not yet.  Sony just dropped the price of the 80 Gbytes PS3 last September.  Maybe sometimes later like in the Summer or Fall of this year as a guess.

Having Blu Ray in the PS3 has it benefits as games can take advantage of the huge space beside Blu Ray movies.  Its not like having Blu Ray only benefit the movies but not the games.  So, in the long run, both gamers and video viewers benefit from it.

I don\'t doubt the PS3 is the best console for the future, but the only game using enough of the blu ray is MGS4. Heavy rain might and Rage is the only one that they said will need more than 1 cd for 360. But by the time the PS3 is fully utilized, MS will be on to the next console that can probably compete with that fully utilized ps3

anyway..dont really care about the PS2 anymore. might be good for my brother though. I didnt know there were multiple 80gig versions of the ps3 so i told him it should be able to play ps2 games...woops

I like the "all in a box" Console, and though PS3 is for the long run(talking about raw selling numbers and games that will fully use all PS3 hardware), I already enjoyed it a lot since R&C and Uncharted, and blu-ray movies.  I don\'t need to wait \'cause I\'m already lost with LBP and KZ2; never enjoyed so much a console.  I have no time to even consider buying RE5, to busy with my studies and...the games above.

I understand what you mean clips, and yes, the mass cannot afford a PS3 now, in a so bad economy; but consider that Sony secured both Cell and bluray for the next Sony console, which will be cheaper and very similar to PS3 architecture, just more more MORE powerful.
Anyway, 21.5M PS3 sold worldwide when Europe only made 2 years old few days ago is not bad at all!  2009 PS3 line-up is so promising and exciting that Uncharted2, R&C a crack in time and Heavy Rain are enough alone to own me!
The price cut will come, more features, unique, famous and popular games will come, and more people will buy it.
It\'s Sony strategy, and I like their vision, but most of all their exclusive games

i\'m not creative enough to make LBP levels. But ill play a level here and there when i feel like taking a break from the other games

mainly been killing time on fallout 3 and kz2..with RE5 every now and then

RE5, fallout, kz, (and i want to finish farcry 2) i have on ps3 so im definitly playing my ps3 way more than my 360 right now. and all im looking foreward to this year is uncharted 2 and god of war 3 so..

Logan and I got on LBP a couple nights ago for the first time in about a month and some of the levels out now are insane.  Amazing what people can do with the tools they\'ve provided.

Uncharted2 and God of War3 are some of my most wanted games, for sure; but other games interest me too : Heavy Rain(a must have for me), R&C a crack in time, which I\'m sure will be a true BLAST!  GT5 ? I think/feel it will be ready for December, but who knows...we\'ll see.
Infamous is interesting too, but I\'ll wait to know more about it.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma2 ? too early to say anything; but the first one was good.

ps: Viper, I almost finished my 3rd level in LBP, and I have to say it\'s really scary, it\'s called Saw.   Actually it\'s a mix of Saw, "the bones collector" and The Exorcist, with complicated enigmas and scary environments and sound.
It\'s almost finished, testing now with my wife the two players, after dinner
