Details are (probably intentionally) slim on this mysterious site, http://www.somethinginthesea.com, discovered by a Joystiq tipster. At the moment, it\'s nothing but a picture of a map, with a marking labeled 2/20/67, and a few weathered documents in front of it. But it\'s totally marketing for BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams.

One of the papers is the image seen above, which is a drawing of the same Big Daddy doll seen in the BioShock 2 trailer. One of the letters describes the doll a bit: "The head resembles a helmet, the feet could be heavy boots." The letter speculates that the doll "resembles particulars" of an "attacker" that carried out a recent kidnapping.

We\'re presenting the trailer again after the break, in the hope that one of you BioShockologists will see some new connections between the material on the site and the trailer.

I didn\'t like so much the first; I mean, the atmosphere is great but game-play for me was not that great.

 • Also, little sisters act a bit like the ‘wanted’ level in GTA this time around, the more you adopt, the more splicers etc come after you, but in return you can get them to harvest more adam. Then when you reach a certain ‘wanted’ level by adopting enough, the big sister gets dropped into the game world to hunt you down, much like the helicopter.

 • The big sister can be killed at any point in the game btw, if you are good enough  she’s not that integral to the plot which is more about self discovery than killing something, she’s just a mechanic to stop you harvesting too many little sisters.
 • The little sister thing is pretty neat, you kill another big daddy then get given a choice of adoption or harvest.

Here is the thing, and here is why they are saying it’s not quite as ‘good vs evil’ this time, if you choose to adopt, you can either take her to a port hole and free her from rapture, or keep her with you for a bit, if you kill enemies, she’ll harvest them for adam which you get a small % of (she gets the rest for herself!). But like I said earlier, the more you have doing this, the more the game tries to kick your ass.
This also opens up the ‘be a complete bastard’ option of having her harvest for a bit, and then killing her anyway.

 • Hehe, and now for the grand finale. Playable flashbacks in a pre-bioshock1 rapture.

I’ll let the proper press tell you the rest of the boring stuff

 • Something to consider is they know that everybody is expecting some huge twist again, and I suspect the real surprise will be that they’ve got the nerve not to take the easy options.

Andrew Ryan isn’t alive, Big Sister isn’t Tenenbum (who is your ‘radio buddy’ for the first part of the game, much like Atlas was in Bioshock1) etc etc.
2K Games Announces February 9, 2010 Global Street Date for BioShock®2
Sequel to the winner of more than 50 Game of the Year Awards marks the arrival of one of 2010’s most highly anticipated titles

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--2K Games announced today that BioShock® 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2007 Game of the Year, will be available worldwide beginning February 9, 2010. The game is now available for pre-order at participating retailers.

Currently in development for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows® LIVE, BioShock 2 will deliver two unique, yet intertwined experiences that form the perfect blend of explosive first-person shooter combat, compelling storytelling and intense multiplayer action.

Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture. Players step into the boots of the most iconic denizen of Rapture, the Big Daddy, as they travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city, chasing an unseen foe in search of answers and their own survival.

Multiplayer in BioShock 2 will provide a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock fiction. Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions, a premier provider of Plasmids and Tonics in the underwater city of Rapture that was first explored in the original BioShock. Players will need to use all the elements of the BioShock toolset to survive, as the full depth of the BioShock experience is refined and transformed into a unique multiplayer experience that can only be found in Rapture.

BioShock 2 is currently in development at 2K Marin in collaboration with 2K Australia, Digital Extremes and 2K China for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows® LIVE. BioShock 2 will be available worldwide on February 9, 2010. This title is not yet rated by the ESRB.
