Dangerous Toys - something happened between EA and Sega that nobody is talking about.  EA is pissed.  Think about it.  The PC gaming market is not as big as the Dreamcast\'s userbase, yet EA continues to dedicate resources to that.  (successful PC title - 250,000 to 400,000 sales; successful DC title - 700,000 to 1,000,000 sales).  Not too mention the Dreamcast\'s dirt cheap development.

Something happened.  Don\'t know what.  The same is true with Vic Ireland and Working Designs.  Seems like Bernie pissed off a lot of people; either that or Sega of Japan did.  Maybe SoJ is a bit of a pain in the arse for American developers.  Who knows.  But EA will whore themselves to any console - as should any developer with a brain in their head.

Actually, one of the reasons is so simple. EA wanted Sega to choose 3DFX as their chip source. I am glad they didn\'t. If they did we would be using Banshee technology,a  crappy one indeed!

So when the time came for Sega to chooose the SoJ\'s choice or SoA\'s choice, the more powerful one came the right one, and I am glad.

Really Crappy graphics + EA

or

the graphics that DC can do now (Exponentially better than the USA version) - EA.

With Visual Concepts, who needs EA? Especially since the rumor has it, that VC is developing College Sports titles next year.

See, I don\'t buy EA\'s "3dfx" excuse.  I can\'t imagine the Emotion Engine was that easy to learn.

As far as Visual Concepts - it would be nice as hell to have a CHOICE of sports titles.  If we had a CHOICE, then baseball and hockey fans wouldn\'t be screwed.  The same is true with PS2.  Sucks that people are limited to EA since 989 isn\'t on the ball.  I wish to god EA would come to DC.  I prefer NFL 2k1\'s Gameplay over Maddens, but I\'d buy Madden at the drop of a hat.  I miss it\'s depth and franchise mode - and Madden cards.  As well as it\'s defense.  Soul Calibur is a fantastic game, but that doesn\'t change the fact that some people love Virtua Fighter\'s mechanics.  As good as a game may be, it\'s still nice to have a choice - because no game can please 100% of the people.

Yea well EA is the house that Sega built with thier Genesis console...so without Sega EA wouldn\'t be the software indusries Billion Dollar Baby...but I guess EA just doesn\'t care now that Sega is stuggling for cash and they are no...I still buy EA games for  my PS 2 but I got alot of bad blood against them for not helping Sega

At the time of the Dreamcast\'s release, Voodoo2 was ALREADY available (I had one!).

Voodoo1&2 were 3D only, Banshee was 3Dfx\'s first 2D+3D combo card and it came out AFTER Voodoo2.

If Sega had choosen 3Dfx, it would have been Voodoo2 technology inside the DC, not Banshee.

Also, EA\'s decision not to support the DC had absolutely nothing to do with Sega\'s choice of PowerVR instead of 3Dfx.

The Banshee used the voodoo2 chipset, but the card was just poorly made sacrificing too much for the 2D aspect, but it was a good effort at the time till the TNT came out.

It looks like they\'ll be gettin Square pretty soon too.

DR: Now that EA is on board, and it has such a close relationship with Square, can we expect an Xbox/Square announcement in the near future?

JA: Yeah, you should. We\'re not done announcing our development partners. This announcement further cements the fact that the world\'s best developers are flocking to the Xbox, and that they think the technical and business strategies are right on and have a lot of confidence in our ability to pull this thing off. And frankly, our confidence grows every day when we get great partners like this on board.

GC: EA was considered the last big fish that you guys needed, but there are still people wondering about Square. Is there any word on that front?
J. A.: Today\'s really about talking about Electronic Arts. And Electronic Arts has been a great partner with us, and over the past 15 months we\'ve built a really tight relationship with those guys, and I think that relationship is going to continue to grow, and the gaming industry will definitely benefit from that relationship, as will the gamers and other publishers. So we\'re doing the same thing with the other publishers. We\'ve been working with companies like Square and other partners that we haven\'t announced yet, very closely, to get their input on the technical aspects of the product and the business aspect and our strategy. And this isn\'t the last announcement you\'ll hear from us.

Amazingly enough, It seems that EA always goes to every system but yet Square stays only to PS2 even though Square is a part of EA... let\'s keep it that way.

Sort of, it was a modified V2 chipset. One texture mapping unit was stripped out of the Voodoo2 and replaced with a 2D VGA core, making it MUCH worse for multi-textured 3D games like Quake3 and Unreal. Hence the Dreamcast would have only used the superior, 3D only Voodoo2 chipset.

Actually,no. The DC has been out snce 1998. When Banshee was still being used. And if you wanted any games at launch, you would have to had the card chosen at least 3 months before hand. It was very smart to use PowerVR2. It is a much better card at doing everything mre than Banshee could ever do.

Yeah, SyxxKorn, we wouldn\'t want to have beter games as a result of them going to another, more powerful hardware. Stay with PS2 and it\'s programming difficulties. (that was actually stated from them, why Bouncer and FF10 were pushed back)

Who cares if they go to another console you will still get a version on your system, a better one may possibly be on a different console though.

Why would the DC need 2D VGA graphics? As explained in my previous post, the Banshee sacrificed one of the Voodoo2\'s TMUs and replaced it with a 2D graphics core, making it inferior to the V2 for 3D graphics. Therefore it would have never been used in a games console.
