...During the hour-long interview with CG Master Acadamy, the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End developer noted that games are increasingly closing the gap in terms of quality with their silver screen counterparts; the big blockbuster movies.

"Game quality is really close to film right now, look at the stuff we do in Naughty Dog. This character, I’m telling you guys, this character can easily be a digital double in a film. Based on the quality, the detail, the blend shape, the colour, everything that we put on the character [Uncharted’s Nathan Drake] this is basically a film character to me. So to me, videos games are getting really close to film quality, and this is exactly what I wanted to do."

Tzeng goes on to explain how the power of the PS4 allows for better imagery to be created and speculates that within a few years games will “get there” in terms of matching the quality of movies.

"As we have more powerful consoles coming out, so right now we have PS4, it’s definitely more powerful than PS3 and that enables to put more polygons, you know, using more high-res maps and get more resolutions in a game, making more expressions making more blend shapes and wrinkle maps. All of this is getting us one step closer to the film quality that we wanted for the game industry and I think in a few years we can definitely get there."

At the moment Frank Tzeng is working on an unannounced AAA game, in the mean time we’ll all be able to check out his hard work on the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End which is to release on the PS4 sometime this year. Hopefully.

Though he's correct and has a point, video game technology still definitely has a way to go to be completely lifelike.  This generation has some seriously great potential and if any game company can push the technology to the limit, it's Naughty Dog. I mean, look at what they achieved with The Last of US. That game still has me in awe and that was on 10 year old technology. It's a shame the PS4 and Xbone can't do 4K. Can you imagine how great those graphics would look? 4K will be the thing that's talked about next generation, guaranteed.

I agreed most of what of you said and i think this generation videogame consoles can do or match Toy Story graphic.  I think Toy Story was possibly the first CG movie, if not the first, possibly one of the first.  It likely we won't see life-like graphic until next generation console which i think might come out in 2020 or around there.  But for this generation consoles, i think we should get graphic that is just like CG quality like those CG video in FMV.

I understand very much why this generation (ps4 and xbone) can't do 4K, especially in 3D because of a performance hit.  Even if sony and microsoft enable 4K for this generation, 3D graphic would have to be downgrade or reduce a lot on 4K resolution running at stable framerate of 30fps or higher than on 2K.  By that i mean polygons, texture, light sources, dynamic range, other effects, etc. will be less on 4K than on 2K.

Remember 4K resolution is like 3840 x 2160p while "2K" or 1080p is 1920 x 1080p.  So 4K has 4 times more pixels or resolution than 2K.  imagine running at that ultra sharp resolution, things have to give for it to run it at a stable 30fps or higher.

many current generation games have trouble running at 1080p at a stable frame rate of 30fps, some actually runs lower resolution than that especially on xbone's version.  4K is still new and in early stage for 3D gaming.  nowadays, maybe some top of the line PC can do 4K and at 60fps, but they are very expensive.  Possibly costing around $2,000?  One game that can i think of supports 4K for PC gaming is GTA V.

I agreed next generation consoles for sony and microsoft will supports 4K resolution.  Not only 4K resolution but in next generation graphic too.
