In an interview, a big wig over at Sony talked about their new VR headset and hinted at a price. They are considering it more of a new gaming platform than an accessory. He seemed to hint at it costing about as much as a new console. This is kinda disheartening since I was hoping for an affordable price point to ensure a wider adoption. If there is a $300 price point, I can see either this taking a long time to be adopted or be a cool accessory that is dead on arrival. Thoughts?
http://appygamer.mobilesrepublic.com/Web/ArticleWeb.aspx?regionid=1&articleid=48461405&source=tapatalk PlayStation VR, (formally known as Project Morpheus) PlayStation's virtual reality system may finally have a price tag and it appears that it won't be cheap. The future of gaming maybe going towards virtual reality but if any gamers want to have a VR system as well as a console or PC, they may have to start looking for extra shifts at work.
Talking to Bloomberg, Sony Computer Entertainment Chief Executive Officer Andrew House confirmed the new name for the system as well as hinting at the price.
House wasn't willing to talk about specific numbers but did confirm that the price would reflect the fact that Sony are considering this much more than a standard PS4 accessory. In the interview he said that the unit will be priced as a new gaming platform, which base on Sony's pricing of the PlayStation 4 when it first released in 2013, we could be looking at about around £300.

This may seem expensive, but the rivals to the PlayStation VR, the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are yet to disclose their prices so until we get that information it is hard to judge. Considering both the Rift and the Vive will require some fairly expensive hardware, it may be that the VR comes up as the cheapest.
The shift towards virtual reality is something that Sony are putting their whole weight behind. At the Tokyo Game Show, showed off the system with 10 playable games, including RIGS: Machine Combat and Final Fantasy XIV. Talking at the event, House said -
“VR rewrites the rule book on how you can create games. You're seeing a large amount of interest and work happening among smaller teams, because it's possible to create something in VR that is very simple but still very magical.”
