If Ken Kutaragi is firred......It may be a good thing....???
« on: December 18, 2000, 02:49:42 PM »
Yes you heard it right, he may have been part of the sucess of the Playstation, but this time it\'s a different ball game.  Microsoft is in the console war,  Sony now has 350 developers they have to attend to now, since everyone of them will be developing in the US and Japan.  Maybe Sony realizes he cannot lead the PS2 to the number one position if he is in charge.  But I could be wrong though, Sony may consider the decision and wait for atleast 1 year after the X-Box launch to see what position they are in.  If Ken can reach the 10 million units by March 2001, all of the Sony higher ups will be backing him up.  Some do blame him for the shortage issue, because they could have planned, and started production a little bit earlier than what he did.  He started March this year instead of doing it a little bit earlier, lets say December 1999.  But I believe Sony will wait and see can he deliver his promise of 10 million units.

But I would not bet on him leaving just yet, because I believe he can lead PS2 to number one.

Until more info is released I will not believe the Reverend or the person who brought this rumor upon us until it\'s on IGN, ZDNet Videogames, or Gamespot TV

He\'s not the #1 guy in charge, he more responsible for R+D and getting the ball rolling on new hardware from there it branches off into 100\'s of players

He has absolutly nothing to do with the target goals, SOny as a company has quite a few people more responsible for getting production plants up and running. Problems with production are never forseen, they are a surprise and you have to react quickly to solve them, and Sony has acxtually done a pretty good job. You obviously have  little clue on the complexity involved with making a high tech machine especially in such a short window with heated competition on your ass. Sony\'s launch was not smooth, but any other company besides Sony trying to get a game console out with the complex never mass produced beforwe components in 2 brand new facilities would have fallen on there faces Sony actually did a tremendous job keeping that from happening

PS2 will not have 10 million units beofre march.

3 million Japan right now + 4000 a week.
1 million USA
200,000 Europe
75,000 - AUS

I figure it will be about 8 million by March.

200,000 for Eurp...

Right now, UK has 80,000 units. By the end of the year, 165,000. This is only in UK, and this is only the end of the year as well. The whole of Europe has 500,000 to match the US. So, Europe should have at least 1.5-1.7 million units by March. Most likely more if production increases. So, its not out of the question for 10 million units for the PS2 by March. Also, that 4000 sale thing for Japan, they were all waiting for the new version of the PS2. So, they are still selling out there.
Opinions are not important.

hey, you got the wrong guy. ken is in charge of R&D and all the tech stuff, not meeting sales target. Some heads will probably roll if targets are not achieved but it\'s definitely not his.
