Scored a couple old computers

So I work in maintenance with an apartment complex. We had a tenant like 9 months ago die in his unit. He had no next of kin nor family nor anyone to take care of his affairs, so his unit just sat vacant with all his crap in there until we figured out what to do. Legally, the company was responsible for his possessions (so I was told). He was also quite a bit of a hoarder. So this week, we finally cleared out his apartment. Buried underneath his hoard of papers I found these two Sony Vaios. The one on the left is a Windows 98 system and the one on the right is an XP system. I've been after a 98 system though due to space restraints right now I haven't pulled the trigger. But I have a storage unit now so I'm gonna throw them in there until I can restore at least the 98 system (probably after the wedding and see what my space situation is in my condo after my future wife moves in). I use my college laptop as my XP system so I have no immediate use for the XP tower. Either way, just wanted to share I also found some camping stuff I nabbed (a propane lantern and a butane stove).

No idea. He was in there for a while. It wasn't pretty. He was in his late 60s I think? I'm not totally sure.

Gaming! I'm gonna set it up as a retro gaming PC. I have a lot of old games from back in the day and more I've acquired recently that I'd like to play. Windows 98 was the last good OS to be based on DOS so a lot of my old DOS games should run fine. The only DOS game I got working on my XP laptop was SimFarm. Which was weird because it's not supposed to be able to run DOS games. Dark Forces and others just will not load or they have all sorts of issues.

oh.  passed away at late 60s is still young imo.  my oldest brother died a little over 1 and a half month ago and he was only 42 when he died.  still too young.  i planned on mentioning his death on my 2 years anniversary martial arts practice at the park which is tomorrow.  i planned on mentioning it on this forums tomorrow.

i heard of ms-dos but i am not sure what dos actually is though.  sounds good you can play dos games on windows 98 pc.  btw, in total, what is the approximate amount of games you have collected (including pc, consoles, handhelds, etc.) over the years?

I'm sorry to hear that about your brother paul. I read the story and that's sad to hear. Was it a heart attack?

MS DOS is another operating system Microsoft used back in the day. It was command prompt based where you would launch programs. Early versions of Windows was based off DOS. The last Windows that worked off DOS was Windows ME. But Windows 98 SE was the last good one that used MS DOS because Windows ME was a hot mess lol. After XP launched, they used the NT base that they used with Windows NT which was used mostly for office settings and professionals. They still base their operating systems off NT which is in it's 11th version (Windows 11 obviously lol). Confusing I know lol.

thank you for the condolences.  yeah, i think its some kind of heart attack.  maybe its cardiac arrest or something.  i am no doctor or nurse for that matter so i don't know pretty much anything about medical things.  i think he threw up a lot that day or something because he drank a lot of water that day and he still have water probably lots of water in his stomach that after he fell down.  water probably traveled to his lungs and he probably suffocated from the water and about 25 minutes later he died of a heart attack or something like that.
