Yeah.  I had one problem (which many heard me rant about on various threads) but I suspect it was a localized issue with my system...not a general production issue with the PS2.

I encountered digital DVD freeze to the point that the system would lose its ability to read the DVD (or any DVD formatted game, movie, etc.).  CD based stuff was okay.  There was no getting past it.  I had a lemon system.

What caused it?  Not sure.  I *did* however purchase a 3rd party "pass-thru" DVD infared remote from Saitek which I believe might have had something to do with it.  Might have fried/reconfig\'d something.  Anyway, all I know is that even the self-diagnostics feature couldn\'t help.

Thankfully, my wonderful and business-savvy local TRU store manager knew he wanted to keep my business (I\'ve done *a lot* of business with him).  He held out a PS2 from a next shipment and called me to exchange them out.  Very cool!

Since then no probs whatsoever!

PS.  I returned the Saitek infared remote the same day I did the PS2 exchange with TRU.  Great personal lesson learned: I will not entertain 3rd party periphs in the future.  Was the Saitek the culprit?  Can\'t confirm.  Was my PS2 ****ed up prior to the Saitek\'s insertion?  Nope.  Was my PS2 ****ed up *after* the insertion.  Sure was...

Picture this: Dave finds an available seat for his \"Aggressive Drivers Anonymous\" encounter group session.   Saying, \"Hello\" he sits amongst his support group of S2K owners...  Smiling, they rock ever-so-gently to and fro in their chairs...humming peacefully...drinking coffee...and rolling little AutoArt & Maisto S2000s across their knees.  At this moment, the group responds in unison, \"Hi, w1ngman!\" :D

I didn\'t have any trouble at initial launch. I only had trouble when it re-entered the atmosphere. Something about it being of half a degree.

w1ngman...Thanks for the post. I was going to buy one of those Saitek Remotes. Now, thanks to you, I myself will not entertain that third party bull****. Sony periphs are great quality anyway :D

I don\'t have a PS2, but hopefully if get enough money and get one it won\'t have any bugs.
It seems as if the people [casual gamers] that we consider to know absolutely nothing are the ones that actually know the most important thing: Name brands don\'t make the console, games do.

I had a problem with the DVD capabilities and the Sony-issued AV wires.  When I tried to watch a DVD through these cables, my screen would darken and sometimes cut out all together.  After I purchased the cable hookup accessory, the problem was solved.

As for third party stuff, I have a Mad Catz memory card and it is going pretty good.

I have a Radio Shack (More like eighth party, rather than third!) cable hookup accessory, and have had no probs!

as far as i have had my ps2... i have had zero problems, i got it in thelaunch date, and its perfec, not collecting dust seeing as my little brother brings his friends and pklays it a grip, i have 10 games for it and i play them all exept poor old orphen it coulda been so much better.. anyeways, dvd wise i have had no probs either, people complain about the slow down or choppyness of watching gladiator,.. not i, i havent had a single slow down, and i even got the "EXORSIST" the new version on cvc, " it isnt supposed to come out til;l next tuesday but seeing as i work at k mart i get the hook up," and it kicks ass man, my dad loved that movie, and it has more creepy sytuff, nop slow down,.. only one problem has happened, and that was the game, my summoner froze, and that game is full of bugs, so that explains trhat, and this one wierd thing, ok i set up my kick ass surrond sound system,tv,and ps2, on my metal shelf, its completely made out of metal, nothing fancy, just looks sweet, andyways, ui was cleaning the screen, when i got static shock, and it hurt man, it wasnt just little shock i mean it was a BIG shock, then i grab the pole on the side, and i get another big ass shock, by then my hand hurt, so i turned the ps2 off, and the tv, put a ps2 place mat i made out of cardboard " it was a display box i got from work and converted it into a place mat :), and no more zaps

Bah, Test Drive LeMans and Metropolis Street Racer are quite possibly the two best racers I have ever played...
