WHY IS MY TV SCREAMING AT ME?????!!!!!
« on: December 26, 2000, 07:58:40 PM »
Yes, that\'s right, I used ALL CAPS!!!  And why, you ask?  Well, am I the only one that has a HUGE volume difference during/after playing DVD movies on my PS2?  I have to turn the volume all the way up on the TV to hear a DVD movie well.  Then, when the movie is over...and I turn it off...and my TV BLAIRS MY EARS OFF!!!  Jeez!  Is there any setting (I\'ve reviewed the options, just hoping beyond hope here) that can even the audio in the PS2 with the TV when playing a DVD movie?

PS.  Taking it the other way, the intro to SSX damn near blows my speakers out!  And on that game, the TV volume is "normal" and has to be toned down to keep from deafening me.  Remember, I\'m 35 (old), so this volume thing really bothers me ;)

There is a setting in audio portion of the DVD menu (the one that comes up when you select functions while playing a DVD) that lets you select +1 or +2 volume for DVD playback...  It\'s in the manual, I\'d tell you which page, but I can\'t seem to find mine :)

Thank you RatBoy!  I\'m one that has rolled my eyes many times with folks asking questions that I know (having read my manual) could have been answered by reading their manual...but alas, I seem to have overlooked this morsel of info you\'ve passed on.  Thanks again, most appreciated! :D

Yes there is a +1, +2 setting, but you won\'t be able to change it unless you turn off DOLBY OPTICAL OUT which is turned on by default.

I also notice that when I set it to +1 the musical backgrounds are VERY loud and the dialogue is average volume.

well, i know the reason why.  dolbytone knows better.  it because dvd movies support dolby digital 5.1 and dts.  and when in 5.1 sound channels, the sounds kind of swallows in.  makes it smaller.  its have to do with noise reduction.  5.1 channels reduce a lots of noise, and it might seems easy to reduce noise but its not.  only higher resolution sound makes it more possible..  i don\'t know why and what is so unique about noise reduction but dolbytone can explain i think.  in order to hear sound in 2 channels, switch it when watching dvd movies or games that support 5.1 sound channels.  hopefully they implement both 5.1 and 2 ch sound.  so in that way, it will gives you an option to switch if you don\'t have a 5.1 receiver.  but some movies might not have the 2 ch options.
playstation 2 rules.  Nintendo Starcube Dolphin drools.  Hehehahahheheheh...
