Video games and big screen Televisions

I am absolutely positive at one time or another this thread has been posted before but here goes
Do video games pose any danger to new big screen televisions or is it just the older models that are susceptible to video games permanantly damaging the screen?

well i didnt pay for our 33" toshiba :P so if it goes wrong then i dont have to pay. but i doubt it would destory it.

I often se arcade machines have Insert Coin Burnt into the screen and you see it even when playing :P. But that cos they are on 12+ hours a day and most of the time with the same insert coin message on the screen

Say you watch 2 football games one day.  The bug in the corner of the screen is up for hours.  You don\'t see any burnin from that.  You see projection units all the time in arcades and they have the same game on all day long and you don\'t really see burn for quite a while.  Any normal person playing video games will do nothing to the tv that regular television wouldn\'t do.

I remember someone at the Home Theater forum was asking about burnin.   His kids watch the cartoon network so much their logo was burnt in..  Man how that would suck.

Just don\'t play the same game hours on in for days and months on end.

you should be fine from phospher burns (is that how you say it?) usually when people have finished
their games they return to normal tv. i can honestly say that when i had my PS1 it was on for
quite a long time and i never had trouble with burns on the screen. maybee the odd crack
in the wall from where iv\'e obliterated a few pads LOL

My god I would not want to live in that home... the cartoon network logo burned it... you\'ve got to be kidding me... astounding...

I have a rear projection Mistubishi Digital TV.  I have not seen any indication of problems, nor have I heard of any.   I suggest that if you get a  big screen TV then get a widescreen one.  16:9   it rocks

I can say with some certainty that the "burned screen" will soon be a thing of the past.

I would love to get a sony 65 inch 16x9 but its like 11999 retail and like 6999 for me. Steep !

I was always under the impression that it was less a matter of the old TVs, and more a matter of the old "stationary background" videogames that used to be prevalent. I can\'t imagine that playing the likes of SSX or SFA3 are any more harmful than watching ESPN or cartoons on the same TV.

Another thing that you should keep in mind is that nowadays most stuff thats static on
your screen is transparent, so the actual colour is allways being changed by the background colour.

I\'ve always heard that you should never play videogames on a projection screen TV, but I never actually saw a case where it had damaged one.  But as far high definition TV\'s go, like a Trinitron, i\'m sure it\'s perfectly fine, I\'ve actually seen in a Sony Store, a ps2 playing on a Trinitron HDTV.

It\'s just awesome looking on my 61" Toshiba HDTV with an S-video cable .  The manual just says don\'t leave the game on unattended which alludes to something like phosphor burn?  I don\'t plan on leaving it unattended, so no problemo
