Playstation 2\'s Second Wave.......R&R

As many hardware shortages and problems as the PS2 launch had, there was no shortage of games. From the original estimate of 20 launch titles, the final tally was up to more than 30, a good dozen of them being great games. The months following were a bit lackluster, however, because big publishers held new games back until more systems hit shelves. Well, the systems are coming, and the games will follow. Check out the five big games that will usher in the second wave of PS2 goodness next year.


5. ATV Off-Road Fury
Sony is teaming up with Rainbow Studios, the company that brought Motocross Madness to the PC, to create the first awesome next-gen off-road title. The graphics and control are sweet, and even in the early version we saw, the environments were some of the best we\'ve ever seen. Only a few companies could get us really excited about riding four-wheel ATVs across the desert, and Rainbow Studios is number one on that list.    
4. Onimusha
Described as Resident Evil meets Bushido Blade, this action-oriented survival-horror game is bringing a real sense of style to the PS2. Lush backgrounds, amazingly high poly-count characters and some of the prettiest FMVs we\'ve seen to date are the hallmarks of Capcom\'s first internally developed PS2 game. Perhaps it\'ll even wash the taste of Street Fighter EX3 out of our mouths.    
3. Zone of the Enders
The news that ZOE will ship with a playable demo of Metal Gear Solid 2 will sell more copies than what the small hardcore contingent of mech fighting games might normally allow, but it is that small group that will truly appreciate the majesty that is Hideo\'s "other" PS2 title coming to shelves next year. Players will do battle in a fully scaled space colony, where all of the buildings can be destroyed and virtually anything can be explored. Beautiful, fun and fast, this is the coolest mech fighting title we\'ve ever seen.    
2. Dark Cloud
One of the few upcoming games that Sony has been forthcoming about, this is one of the titles that drew people to the PS2. Zelda-esque, yet with original town-building aspects and a unique graphical flair, this is one of those games that make everyone who sees it stop for a second look. Hopefully, all of our waiting will be worthwhile.    
1. The Bouncer
The Bouncer is by far the earliest and most hyped game on the PS2. If this beat-\'em-up-meets-RPG isn\'t the gods\' gift to gaming, then we may well see the biggest backlash this side of Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace. The screenshots are gorgeous, and the cutscenes are unbelievable. Now let\'s see some gameplay before the masses riot.  

EA plans to launch more sporting titles in March 2001 also, that means EA will join up with Sony/Square/Konami in March 2001, and February 2001. There are more games that will be released in March 2001 also.
