EB Get right up my nose
« on: January 02, 2001, 12:17:49 PM »
Walked in there today and they happened to have a 2nd hand copy of RR5 on display for £29.99 so i decided to pick
it up while i had the chance. upon opening my package i found 3 stickers 1 on the outside barcode, 1 on the cd and
one on the Manual. fair enough i thought. but upon peeling
these off i found EB written on the outer case, CD and Manual in Permanent marker. arse holes!, i have managed to get rid of the ones on the case & cd but not from the manual.
Why do these idiots have to deface software, i mean come on.

They do that so people can\'t return used software as new. I am not defending the practice. I am just giving you their reasoning behind it.

Certainly a less obstructive, less damaging method of marking could be done.  And the CD should never be touched.  That\'s a pet peeve of mine.

EB is Electronics Boutique
« Reply #5 on: January 02, 2001, 02:20:22 PM »
EB is Electronics Boutique, a large Videogame Retailer in the US and UK/Aus, etc.

I used to work at my local EB in the US and we never once wrote on any games, cds, or manuals. In the US, i dont know about the UK, you are required to have a receipt to return new games that are opened for a full refund. I would call your EB and ask them why they do that and tell them that it\'s pointless. I dont want anyone writing on my games :).

Yep, sure seems strange to me that they\'d want to do such a thing. it just seems that this is one of those things
that us in the UK will have to get used to when buying second hand software from EB. i wont be buying second hand
from there again. it may seem to people that i\'m taking this seriously but i am one of those people that pride
myself in keeping my stuff... well ...like new if you like.

i work for EB currently and we dont deface the box, cd nor the manual..the only thing we might put on there that might be hard to get off is the lil sensor tags when you walk out the door, you beep...thats the ONLY thing we put..i think you should call your local EB and ask them why they are doing that

When I worked at EB we would put a "U" around the barcode so we knew it was used. This was before our manager was fired/arrested for illegal practices. He was stealing money and blaming it on the employees.

was it a used game?

If so maybe the previous owner did it and EB just figured if they coverd it up they could sell it.

Otherwise i see no reason for them to do that. That will just make it harder for them to sell

I bought a used PS game there about 4 years ago and they did the same thing.  I think it was a "P" that they put on the CD and the back of the owners manual.

The EB sounds little like a store called Anttila here.

They place huge price-tags wich won\'t slip out whatever you do ( unless you let it melt off in boiling water but then there\'s the possibility that it ruins the whole package ); I really hate it.

Glad that they don\'t put tags on CDs :)

Why the price-tags can\'t be little and easily ripped off?
