Quick Question...

Does some software play louder on the PS2 than others. I don\'t mean TV volume, I mean Load louder, and run louder in the system. I have Madden 2001 and Midnight Club. Madden 2001 almost soundless, Midnight Club Loud. Anyones else?

Is Madden a DVD game?

DVD\'s spin at 4× speed, while CD\'s get around at 24×. Hence CD games make a load more noise. The difference is really clear when I play TTT (CD game) and Fantavision (DVD game). Sometimes TTT makes my PS2 seem like a noisy giant vibrator, while Fantavision runs smoothly and I can only hear the fan running.

I think Madden is a DVD game. I\'m not to sure about Midnight Club, so you are probably right. Although I play Playstation 1 games on my PS2 all the time, and they\'re relatively quiet.

Check the game case for the DVD logo and you\'ll know if it\'s DVD or not.

Can\'t remember where I read that info but it makes sense as far as PS2 games go. Could it be that the old PS CDs spin slower and only the PS2 CD games have to be spun at insane speeds? I really haven\'t followed my PS2\'s reactions when playing PSX games but think they\'re not as loud cause I surely would\'ve noticed it.

Help, someone with more knowledge on the matter?

Strange.. I hired a ps2 awhile ago with TTT. There wasn\'t much noise at all. I guess americans got stiffed hehe.

I just found out that Madden 2001 and Midnight Club are both CD formatted games. Why would Midnight Club sound as though the PS2 is about to self-destruct?(vibrates very loud during gameplay)It is not my system. Every other game that I have played on my PS2 have been fairly quiet. It must be the programming in Midnight Club that makes the PS2 react this way.

It could be the way it\'s programmed, since the setting is big cities in the game it has to load new material from the CD as you play. In Madden there\'s a smaller area to load for the machine... just a though

Hawke, thats a good point. The cities are rather big, so I suppose the CD needs to spin pretty quickly to get the data on the screen. Thanks for the insight. Not understanding this was starting to really bother me.

But then again... how the heck does TTT make so much noise? It only has to load the backgrounds, some action sets and characters + some other stuff. That\'s it then. But the disc spins at full speed at all times. Strange...

I think it\'s because the backgrounds are pre-rendered, so the console needs to play that movie directly from the cd, to save some ram, not sure though

Pre-rendered? Hell no... That would be insane... how the hell could they do pre-rendered background that respond to camera movement like 3D ones. If they were all pre-rendered they\'d look all flat. Looks all cutesy 3D to me. Or... maybe some of the furthest parts are, yeah, like that waterfall in King\'s stage... mm, could make sense...

Some of the prettiest backgrounds in that game I\'ve ever seen (also one of the prettiest games I\'ve seen). Too bad they\'re not interactive *daydreaming*

Yeah my TTT spins at insane rates too and makes my PS2 loud, so don\'t worry I think MOST ever ones does that.....I beleive it\'s to keep the game loading fast....if you notice you don\'t have to wait much for anything in TTT because it loads pretty damned fast.....especially to be a fighter. I don\'t think they had to crank it all the way up to 24x to do it though, but then again it might be the product of first gen games and the programming, cause my other games don\'t do that so it might not happen with any others.

Or maybe you guys got stiffed cuz your games might not be loading as fast as ours Ahahahhahaaha
