Sega going multi-platform is a double edged sword.
« on: February 05, 2001, 11:30:14 AM »
By going multi-platform, they\'ll be sure to recoup their losses in the past 4 or 5 years in the red. Not only that, but by exposing their games to a multitude of gamers across the board, they will amass a huge following when Sega decides it\'s time to go back to making consoles again(once they\'re financially stable and with CSK\'s huge financial approval - cha-ching!)

By that time, Sega will herald their new console to go up against the Playstation 4. Think 10 years or more from now. That\'s long term planning. Then again, they maybe so content with just making games that they\'ll be able to concentrate more on their arcade section. Not much hoopla there lately.

So, for now, Sega is rebuilding its foundation and will one day be the formidable console maker it used to be.

Of course, I could be so wrong. Sony could just buy Sega from CSK and make them their 2nd party developer.

Yeah that\'s all well and good, but to me it reminds me of this time this company made a console called the Sega CD and then the 32X and then the Saturn and then they didn\'t like them anymore so they quit making them.

why are your comments always so pointless Rob? Saturn, 32X, SegaCD. These are all consoels that Sega tried to support, but for some reason, people werent buying them. The supported Saturn alot longer than they couldve and probably shouldve. It dies after the first year. But they went on for two years after than and released great games, even thogugh they were the only ones doing it.

Maybe if people would stop worrying about brand recognition and being the coolest cat ont he block, Sega would have the respect they deserve and DC wouldve sold twice as much by now. But idiots like you always blame crap on Sega when they do their best to keep a system afloat.

No, I don\'t always crap on Sega.  But your remark about Saturn lasting longer than it should have is absolutely ridiculous.  You shouldn\'t worry about which system is "cooler", but which system will you still be able to buy games for in 1 year.

My point is, where is the reward for being a loyal Sega Dreamcast customer from day one?  They\'re once again coming out with another Dreamcast upgrade which will give late adapters to their product an advantage over their current customers.  I\'m actually trying to defend you guys who do buy Sega products.  See, so don\'t get all pissy.

Also, they like to string short-lived console projects together.  But I do admit the Dreamcast has lasted longer than I thought.  I would\'ve bought one, but there are not enough games I\'m interested in.

Have you played Shenmue, Lemans, Rayman 2, Ecco the dolphin, Samba De Amigo, Sonic, 2K series, Virtual On, Soul Calibur, Phantasy Star, Grandia 2, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Grind Radio, Space Channel 5, MSR, 4 Wheel Thunder, Hydro Thunder, etc.

THat\'s about 20 triple A games.  I\'ve never seen any other system get that many in such a short time!!NEVER, not even PSX.

And let me remind you that Sega has announced that most of the upcoming sequels and franchises coming out this year for DC are going to remain exclusive.

Crazy Taxi 2
Ecco 2
Jet Grind 2
2K2 series
Shenmue 2
Virtua Tennis 2k2
Daytona 3
Floigan Bros.
House of the Dead 3
Skies of Arcadia 2
Head Hunter
Agartha
Ill Bleed
among others. Rumours are starting in on NiGHTS 2 and Panzer Dragoon Saga Eternal-Go out with a bang!

I just recently bought MSR and must say it\'s the most addicting, frustrating, and beautiful racer I\'ve played.  It\'s perfect and you can only get it on DC!!

2001 is still going to be a good year for DC, probably it\'s best.

Ginko, my point is, people who buy this new hybrid Dreamcast or whatever it is, will still be able to play everything you just listed; everything a regular DC does and more (if that\'s the way I understand it).  Which once again gives the advantage to the later adopters of their products.

Maybe these new features won\'t even be worth it, but it\'s just another time Sega makes more hardware.  They said they had 30 US games this year coming out, but after that will they even support the regular DC format anymore or will you have to own one of these new units?
