POLL: Broken Controllers?
« on: February 08, 2001, 02:52:38 PM »
(Yeah yeah this is stupid)

I imagine that just about everybody on this board has broken atleast one controller throughout our respective videogame careers. So give us the lowdown on how many controllers you\'ve mangled and the circumstances that led to their untimely demises. (Unless your too chicken to admit your own guilt!)
Er, excuse me, how much for one of those, uh, prophylactics?..........But I don\'t have a dollar and thirty-five cents!

Actually, I haven\'t destroyed any controllers. My Sega Mastersystem\'s Player 2 controller has a button that sticks, but generally I take good care of my game equiptment. Unless that is, you count the GB and GameGear as controllers too since their buttons are in the unit. I threw my GB against the wall after it\'s screen busted. (I\'ve never seen an electronic device shatter into so many pieces. What a pile of cheap crap.) My GameGear\'s screen broke too, so my friend Kevin and I threw it against the pavement and stomped on it a few times before running over it repeatedly with my car.

Now I\'ve shot my NES and Genesis with a 12 gauge after they broke, but I never bothered with shooting the controllers. (Though they would be good targets for my .22) I plan on doing the same with my PSX as soon as it dies, but that looks like it ain\'t gonna happen for a long time.

So far the PS2 controllers(made by Sony) have shown to be quite durable.  My friend has a DC and his DC controllers break often, and sometimes do not detect the memory card. N64 controllers were pretty good. N big problems there.

Well i ahve gone through at least 2 PSX contollers and one n64 controller

Well it wasn\'t completely my fault though because my dog, when it was still a puppy , wanted to chew on soething and it happened to find itself in my room. And there went 2 controllers a psx and the n64 ones.

But one time my friend and me were playing DOA2 shortly after launch and my dog was with us. Then all of a sudden the game paused - i told my friend to un pause but he said his controller wasn\'t working - so i tried everything and then i looked down to see a pile of drool and my dog\'s mouth around the new PS2 dual shock\'s wire - and it was bit in half.

if it weren\'t for te dog i would have no problems though.
This Sig is a Work in Progress.

Wow, what a coincidence... just 6 days ago my first PSX controller (Were talking 5 years old and used more then any other controller I have ever owned and it\'s a standard PSX controller when analog was only in the dev stages) finally started to squeak and stick terribly during a game of Capcom VS SNK (yes, i have the DC-->PSX controller adapter).  So, because the second player controller for my old PSX generally had buttons that stuck, I replaced the D-pads (the controller i was trying to fix had a cracked D-pad) and cleaned every button (man, 5 years of build up is pretty nasty) and now the controller is brand new.  Sadly, the second player controller is now worthless, but it lived a good life.  All that matters is the first player controller works great and my Street Fighter console days continue (I refuse to play SF with any other controller except the PSX standard) so it has a happy ending. :)

Tekken killed my controllers!

I\'ve totalled, err, 3 normal PSX pads now. Or, well, they\'re still functional, but they don\'t detect directions on the d-pad too well. Press left and you get a jump. You can\'t play Tekken like that now can you. Nowadays I use them for... er, no I don\'t use \'em at all anymore really. Anybody wanna buy some half-broken PSX pads? :D

The Dual Shock pads are very durable. I\'ve yet to get even one malfunction on any of mine. Also the GunCon45 is amazing... it still feels like new after many hundred hours of relentless baddie blasting in Time Crisis.... :)

Also I hate N64 controllers \'cause the analog stick gets all funny \'cause so many games require spinning the stick. And it doesn\'t feel like it\'s designed for that. It\'s all wobbly now and doesn\'t respond to the commands accordingly sometimes... must buy a new one soon, I\'m losing my cool with Mario running into bottomless pits and stuff...

I\'ve never broken any in anger, though I have many broken controllers lying around. I\'ve tossed a controller across the room when I was angry, but it didn\'t break.

I\'ve never broken a controller either. Never!

I\'ve had Playstation for 3 years, and the controllers seem just fine. Maybe the d-pad is quite "squeaky" but overally I\'ve never harmed a pad critically.

But once my little-sister "spilled" whole glass of lemonade onto my mothers laptop-computer keyboard. Took half a year \'til the stickiness of the keyboard started to fade :)
