Silent Hill was, without a doubt, one of the scariest games for the PS One. The subtle yet sheer freakyness was incredible and it took the system by storm. That experience will be revisited this fall when Silent Hill 2 is released for the PlayStation 2. Strap on your flashlights, we\'re taking a trip to Silent Hill.
Once again we have another fantastic game to look forward to. This one being added to the extensive genre of survival/horror, of course. Eventually there\'s not much limit to push, but without a doubt, Silent Hill 2 will push the limit like never before with new ways of camera trickery, taking full advantage of the PlayStation 2\'s capabilities.
The atmosphere in Silent Hill 2 is mercilessly dark, creepy, and somewhat depressing. The foggy surroundings leave the town shrouded in mystery, leaving you uncertain of impending events to come. The character design is very impressive, and some of the creatures are outright disturbing. Faceless, soiled-looking nurses that lurch around is just one example. Also, the streets have been enhanced from the original game, meaning the shops are highly detailed and nothing looks repetitive.
The story is set around a man named James Sanderland, who\'s wife died 3 years prior. Oddly, James receives a letter from his wife, Mary, requesting him to meet here in the quaint town of Silent Hill. So, James follows the letter\'s
request and goes to Silent Hill where he\'s confronted by a woman who appears to be his deceased wife named Maria. Still, little is known about the story, but expect just as much terror in SH2 as in the first game.
Survival Horror is a critical genre in the world of videogames. There are many marvelous examples of what Survival Horror games should be and the original Silent Hill definitely lived up to the standard. The question is will Silent Hill 2 be competitive enough to survive on the PS2? From what\'s visible so far, the answer is yes. I have high expectations of SH2, and I expect Konami to deliver fully!
