Silent Hill 2
« on: February 19, 2001, 09:54:14 AM »
Silent Hill was, without a doubt, one of the scariest games for the PS One. The subtle yet sheer freakyness was incredible and it took the system by storm.  That experience will be revisited this fall when Silent Hill 2 is released for the PlayStation 2.  Strap on your flashlights, we\'re taking a trip to Silent Hill.

Once again we have another fantastic game to look forward to.  This one being added to the extensive genre of survival/horror, of course.  Eventually there\'s not much limit to push, but without a doubt, Silent Hill 2 will push the limit like never before with new ways of camera trickery, taking full advantage of the PlayStation 2\'s capabilities.

The atmosphere in Silent Hill 2 is mercilessly dark, creepy, and somewhat depressing.  The foggy surroundings leave the town shrouded in mystery, leaving you uncertain of impending events to come.  The character design is very impressive, and some of the creatures are outright disturbing. Faceless, soiled-looking nurses that lurch around is just one example.  Also, the streets have been enhanced from the original game, meaning the shops are highly detailed and nothing looks repetitive.

The story is set around a man named James Sanderland, who\'s wife died 3 years prior.  Oddly, James receives a letter from his wife, Mary, requesting him to meet here in the quaint town of Silent Hill.  So, James follows the letter\'s
request and goes to Silent Hill where he\'s confronted by a woman who appears to be his deceased wife named Maria.  Still, little is known about the story, but expect just as much terror in SH2 as in the first game.

Survival Horror is a critical genre in the world of videogames.  There are many marvelous examples of what Survival Horror games should be and the original Silent Hill definitely lived up to the standard.  The question is will Silent Hill 2 be competitive enough to survive on the PS2? From what\'s visible so far, the answer is yes.  I have high expectations of SH2, and I expect Konami to deliver fully!

He has the power of both worlds
Girl: What power… beyond my expectations?
AND IT\'S PERSONAL
Demon: No… the legendary Sparda!?
Dante: You\'re right, but I\'m his son Dante!

not to be rude or anything but why exactly are telling us this? seeing how we\'ve known all that for a few months.

Unless you were just ranting on how you like survival horror games. If so go ahead.

This game does look really cool!  I was so scared of the first one.  I could not even finish it!  Those little demon children in the school freaked me out so bad.  I should go rent Silent Hill 1 and see if I can finally finish it.

lol you haven\'t even scratched the surface! if those children freaked you out, you should see the doctors, the tenticles in the cabinet, and these mumbling monsters that show up later in the game and jump on you when you finally get to venture in the streets for a while!
\"You know back before the war broke out I was a saucier in San Antone. I bet I could collar up some of them greens, yeah, some crawfish out the paddy, yo\'! Ha! I\'m makin\' some crabapples for dessert now, Ya hear! Hell yeah, ha!

This is will be a game that you have to play in the dark alone on a foggy night, just don\'t venture outside or you might never come back in muhahahahahahahahahhaaha.

but seriously these games are best played in the dark, you just don\'t get the same effect playing during the daytime.

well go to a gas station and buy some caffeine pills - i took some at work once, they were called Yellow Jackets, and ended up cutting my thumb almost in half when cutting meat becuase i was moviing so fast

yea and i was up pretty late that night because that was the night i got my PS2 - you have no idea how hard it was to play that thing - i ended up having to use the middle of my thumb becuase they top half was all cut up and bandged from when i went to the hospital

ahh the PS2 launch will be quite rememorable because of that
This Sig is a Work in Progress.

Silent Hill 2...

It will be a shocker. A true horror game. It\'ll be even scarier than the First silent hill, because of the 128-bit wich promises even scarier zombies...

This is a sheer example of "What good special effects can do to a horror -movie". They\'ll either ruin it, or make it much scarier.

Interesting it will be. Interesting indeed.

by the looks of things it will be the same as Resident Evil , i.e. pre-rendered backgrounds.

No pre-rendered backgrounds.  Full 3-d.  Go download the video of it a Daily Radar.  It shows in-game footage.  That bathrrom at the end of the video they showed in full-3d was probably the most detail and realism I\'ve seen thrown into a game to date.  It was amazing.  It looks completely like not a single texture is duplicated and they must be using massive amounts of polygons to get that amount of detail into that bathroom.  So yes the game is in full-3d.  No pre-renderedness of the RE series

Well the local Blockbuster didn\'t have any in, but I will be going back tommorrow to get a copy!  I want to beat this game!

What I really like about Silent Hill is the weapons!  They are realistic for the situation that you are in.  I wish Resident Evil had chainsaws and other cool weapons like that!
