Infogrames announced today that their trademark racing series Test Drive will make an appearance on the PlayStation 2 this fall. With a brand new, built-from-scratch graphics engine designed to take advantage of the PlayStation 2 technology, the game will utilize numerous cutting edge graphics techniques that maximize visual realism. Some of the techniques utilized in the game include anti-aliasing, mip-mapping, real-time lighting and multi-level reflection mapping. With these technologies implemented, players will experience real-time shadows and lighting on cars, throughout the game\'s environments, including on cars and people.

To accomplish the feel of a crowded and realistically interactive environment in Test Drive, the artificial intelligence (AI) editor in the game has been designed to orchestrate street intersections and vehicle responses in complex ways. For example, vehicle traffic and pedestrians will respond appropriately to traffic signals changing from green to red. People will jump out of the way of cars as they come closer and city traffic and other moving vehicles will be choreographed to create mayhem heightening gameplay.












Looks cool, the tech demo that they released on this a few months ago looked pretty cool as well.

IGN (http://ps2.ign.com/previews/16197.html) and DailyRadar (http://www.dailyradar.com/previews/game_preview_1359.html) also have previews on the game. Looks very good at this stage. For once the buildings are more than just textured cubes. More polygonal detail might well be on its way as the time goes by. I haven\'t played a Test Drive game since the very original one on my Xerox 8086. This might change as this newest incarnation comes out.

It\'s good to be a racing game nut with a PS2 :D

I am going to go ahead and say this game may just suck. If you look at Test Drive 6 and TD 5. They were pretty crappy. Maybe if they get Melbourne House to do it, it will turn out like the godly TD: LM on DC. Best racers i have seen in a long time, and that will be a game I am going to get for PS2, also.

Ug, Test Drive series was never known for a good game, period. Almost every single version that came out never passed the \'tolerable game level\' in terms of presentation, graphics, and lasting appeal. Its graphics completly hiddious in ALL versions. It tried its luck on PSX, PC and DC. Sure, those screens look nice, but man thats just not enough textures, polygons, and no FSAA.  Infogrames still has a LONG WAY to go with this one.

TD 5 and 6 looked good, BUT they played like poop

well who knows but the game is unfinished and not do out for awhile, but I think its shaping up nicely

It will have a living city so they say, and will be coded specifcally for the PS2 hardware. There is a few things mentioned in the article thats intriguing

Will see, but its something of interest..
