Yup...Got my [1st] on Oct 26th.  About 2 months later, I had a GREAT store manager from TRU replace mine with a new one from his store b/c mine simply WOULD NOT play anything based on DVD-medium.  PSX games were fine, CD-medium PS2 games were fine, music was fine.  Personally, I believe the purchase and use of a "pass-thru" Saitek DVD remote might somehow have had an effect on the 1st unit\'s problems -- they did not exhibit themselves UNTIL I used the Saitek controller.  Anyway, that\'s my story.  Oh yeah, [2nd/replacement] unit has worked flawlessly...of course, I\'ve never used a Saitek controller in this one either...

I am one of the unfortunate ones to have a PS2 system that worked fine for 3 months and now freezes both DVDs and Games.  The freezing occurs at different times but in each case you can do nothing except power off the machine and reboot.  I haven\'t had to do this much rebooting since the first Windows95 launch came out in the mid 90s.  To save on the wear and tear I stopped using the device and I am now talking with the Sony reps about fixing the machine.

Mine is currently in for repair (first-day console). The Console couldn\'t turn on and just flashes a green led constantly. A game CD is stuck inside. Is this common? The PS2 tech said that he\'d never heard of it. yeah right.

A mate of mine is sending his back to Sony after only having it for 3 weeks. Apprently the drive tray ejects discs at twice the speed it usually should and discs now fly out of the drive and onto the floor. Also the unit wont shut down properly and the picture coming from it is all garbled.

Mine has been fine so far, but with all these people having probs with their units i`m expecting something to go wrong with mine in the next few weeks.

Unfortunately,  I\'ve had mine since launch and I had to call up just yesterday to get details on sending it back. For some reason in the past month or so it started having more and more problems reading DVD\'s. Once they were playing it was fine, but some of them took a dozen tries before they worked and others refused to work at all. It was also starting to occasionally have problems booting up games, so I decided I may as well see about sending it back. The good news is that my roommate also owns a PS2 so I won\'t have to miss out on any gaming for the next few weeks. The bad part is that since it frizzed out after 90 days it\'s no longer covered by the Warranty(the store I bought it from had no option for an extended warranty.:() Hopefully this should clear up any future problems with it, but it still sucks. Hope my roommate doesn\'t have the same problems. Anyway, my suggestion is that if you start having any problems with your system and it\'s still under warranty, send it back and have\'em check it out. It couldn\'t hurt and might save you a headache down the road.

Ive had my playstaion moded and all and It\'s still in perfect working condition (even after being abused with the swap mehod for a couple of months before it got moded) . I didnt have a problem with overheating or anything like that. My ps2 seems to be working fine too. Ive had it set in vertical and horizontal positions too. Its still working like a charm and i hope it continues to do so.

My PS2 has been working just fine also.  When I first got it, it seemed to buzz a little louder than the PSX when loading, but I just got used to it; after all, it loads a lot faster than the PSX, so I can deal with a little noise.  As far as overheating goes, I have engaged in some marathon sessions with SSX, Timesplitters, Madden, and Kessen; and my PS2 has always been as cool as a cucumber afterwards.  In fact, I have never turned the power off, and have only put it in sleep mode since launch date...Either my roommate or I has played it almost every day since, and we have had no problems with it freezing up or anything.  We have never once used it for DVD playback, since there has been a DVD player in the apartment for about a year before the PS2, so I can\'t vouch for it\'s DVD playability...except for the fact that I tried to play a DVD of Dragon\'s Lair 2 in both the DVD player and my PS2, only to have a 1/2 second or so lapse in between every move...very annoying,  since this means that the sound and picture both stop every time you make a move, but I digress...Anyway, no, I have absolutely no complaints about my PS2.

Well I did not buy mine at launch. I just could not wait in all those long lines. But I ended up buying on off this guy my brother knows. He sold them too us for $400 bucks. I have not had no problems with it so far. And seeing how I did not buy from a store so I could not even take it back and exchange it. Oh well I guess I hope nothing happens. I know it was kind of stupid but I wanted it bad and the guy had some I guess if it broke he would give me my money back or buy me a new one;)  I don\'t know how many psx I have taken back to stores and exchanged o well hope mines keeps on rocking.

I\'ve noticed something on my PS2. When you push the eject button, the tray opens up pretty fast. BUT, when I push the button to close the tray, I notice that it kinda slows down a little bit right before it\'s about to be shut. It\'s almost like it slows down so that it doesn\'t crash inside.

Man, I\'m a little paranoid because I got a CD stuck in the tray. The CD wasn\'t on the tray correctly, so when I closed it, the tray got stuck. Ever since that I\'m thinking I messed up the tray mechanism.

Do you guys notice the same thing? I hope didn\'t mess up the tray mechanism.

0600 hours on 10/26/00 was the time/day the music died for all other forms of video game entertainment (well, at least until I got tired of Timesplitters :D ) in my house.

The only problem I had was with the A/V cables packaged with the system.  I had to run it through the VCR, and nobody told me that you can\'t watch DVD\'s through the VCR!!  I had to go out and buy an RF switch cable setup until I got my new TV.

Now I have inputs (not enough, damn RCA!) on my TV and S-video, and I couldn\'t be happier!

I had to send mine back to sony on Jan 24th.It took them one month to fix it.MY DVD player would not play movies. They tried to charge me $111.00 to fix it but I had to fight with them.So they ended up taking care of the bill for me.It works great now.

i\'ve had mine since launch and no problems yet.  it\'s not quite as good with layer changes on dvds as my standalone, but i\'m hoping it\'ll get fixed with a driver update.  no synchronization problems or other bugs yet ... *knocks on wood*
