A moment of silence for todays youth.....

I know this isn\'t video game related but it\'s important.  I just read the new issue of time (or it might have been newsweek, can\'t remember which) it had a big feature on school shootings. I suggest you all read it. This **** is the reason I\'m glad  I didn\'t grow up in this country, it\'s so consumer based and we spend our time being scared and teaching our kids to stay away from drugs and to wear seat belts and not talk to strangers and blah blah blah.. That we forget to teach our children that life is about living. Cause that\'s really the meaning of life, it\'s not to be safe or to be good at football cause your parents want you to be or to have lots of money. it\'s to live however you live, and what ever form of living makes you happy, if it\'s art then that\'s great if it\'s sport or videogames or living on the street or whatever that\'s great a long as your living and being happy.  People seem to have forgoten this, even my dad who once was a traveling hippy is now a deppressed buisness man who gets worried even at the mention of weed.  At my school alone this year we\'ve had one stabbing (death), two suicides, a drug overdose/robbing, a few other attempst of suicide, alot of beatings, an attempt of    a shooting and who knows what else that has been kept to the proper authorities. People need to think about what their are doing and why. They should be living to live and be happy, however they may achieve that.  For me it\'s art and video games as art and ejoying good weather and hanging out on lazy days with my friends and brisk morning runs and great story\'s and just enoying myself even if I\'m looking like a fool. It\'s so easy but for some reason people just can\'t see it, the meaning of life is right infront of us and so obviouse we seem to over look it way to often.

And don\'t blame Americans for everything. Yes, we\'ve never had school-shootings here in Finland, but who knows when some drugged wacko will find it good way to show the world... as the media shouts all the school-shootings out too loud. They could get someone start thinking to kill a bunch of people and then do the suicide wich was planned before...

We here in finland have the greatest amount of teens using alcohol and drugs in Europe ( was it 3rd greatest... but it was top three anyway ).

It is a crazy world we live in.

Yep, people are screwed up. I guess it\'s always been that way, though. Look on the bright side, at least people aren\'t mauled to death by wild animals for little or no reason for the entertainment of thousands of onlookers in a huge arena. Now a days, we have Fox for that sort of thing.

Just in case some people failed to notice, violence isn\'t limited to America... Sure, some countries have less violence, but others have alot more.

Im so glad that my 3 girls lives with me in Sweden.

Although your speech sounds good on paper ( or a PC screen for that matter) I must say that you are pretty wrong about teaching and letting live.  Because if the childrens ideas of fun are to shoot up schools and kill then your theory will get us all killed, while if they where taught NOT to do that then we would all be better off.

I only skimmed the thread, but I\'ll add, school shootings have been steadily decreasing. Less kids evvery year are killed at schools. \'But what about Columbine?\' Less kids were killed that year than the year before. Don\'t believe the hype, your kids are very safe at school. They have a better chance of getting hit by lightning twice.
