Somebody help me out

Is there any way to hook up a ps2 to a vcr and still be able to watch dvd\'s?

I\'m gonna get a new vcr and I wanna know if there is anything I can get so I dont have to switch the ps2 from the vcr to the tv when I wanna watch a movie.

I doubt it with a new VCR.  Just shell out some money for a new kickass TV with Component inputs.  Check out the Panasonic CT-27D20 or CT-27D10.  Thats what I have and it kicks ass.  Check out the BestBuy ads their price went down quite a bit.  I think its down to like $350 now.

I just bought a new tv. I don\'t have much money being a broke ass college student and couldnt afford anything good. I was hoping that I could at least get a new vcr that would work but I guess not.
Maybe someday when I am rich and famous:D

Sure Lucas!  If you said you are going to be willing to purchase a new VCR, then get one with RCA input jacks (preferably in the front of the VCR for quick connect).  

While I *do* move my PS2 back and forth upstairs & downstairs in my house, I bring it upstairs to the VCR with the front RCA jacks (its a Sony SLV-N50 for the record) cuz I like to use it to "pass-thru" record what I play on the PS2.  This works great and allows me to let friends at work (that don\'t have the blessed opportunity to own a PS2) become green with envy over my fantastic "toy".

And just like the gaming, I can do this for playing DVDs as well.  Some folks have complained of the macrovision thing...  I\'ve not experienced it with this particular unit; and yes, I am obviously passing the playback through the VCR.  Hope this helps!

well why dont you just get the RFU adaptor if ya cant hook it up?

its gonna look crappy but hey at least you can watch them, and it better than spending like 150 more bucks on a vcr, itll be just temporary anyway till you get the TV upgrade.

Radio shack sells cheap little devices that you could hook your PS2 and and VCR up to and then hook to your TV...

The thing is, I NEED a new VCR. And I figured as long as I\'m at it I might as well find out if its possible. I guess I\'ll go to Radio Shack and try to find one of those things ho3j is talking about.

Hey JC, weve got the same TV.
I love that TV.
Before that TV I had a small 13 inch TV and this is such a huge difference.
I love this TV.

That\'s right Lucas.  To your question: "So if I get one of those will I be able to play dvds with no problem?"  If you get that VCR [or possibly any VCR with additional RCA inputs -- but again, some forum members have alluded to macrovision protection problems when playing DVDs through their VCR; I have not experienced this unique problem with my Sony unit] you\'d be able to enjoy videotapes OR play DVDs through your PS2 just fine.

BTW, I did not initially mention the RFU thing, cuz your point of the thread was that you wanted to purchase a VCR but wanted to be able to use your PS2 as a DVD player as well...so my suggestion would handle both desires just fine b/c again, I can suggest this b/c I *have* this very same setup at home [albiet along with a Pro-logic receiver, 54" projection TV, satellite dish...and an accommodating wife!]...doing well in school has its own rewards! :D

Ha what a coincidence.  I had a crappy 13 inch TV too until I replaced it in November with my CT-27D20.  I should have got the D10 because I never use the PIP.

Yeah, I got D10 because I didnt feel the need tp pay 100 dollars extra to get the PIP.
I work at Circuit City, so I get mine at cost.
My D10 cost me 300 dollars.
I bought the PS2 component cables with it as well.
Im waiting for the gamelink 400 series to become available.
