Yes, the point of view of someone who felt a damage model would make the game too hard. Since the game is meant to be a simulation I recomended that you play Mario Kart instead.

Mario Kart is a great game, you should look into getting a GBA.

Bozco, it wouldn\'t make the game too hard if it was made an option that could be turned on and off.  I propose a tiered prize car reward system: better cars if you play on difficult (damage on) than what you\'d normally get with it off.

Touche!  There\'s nothing quite like draggin the front bumper of a Chrysler 300 series through the turns in Leguna Seca!

Thank God I wasn\'t the only one in North America who got that game! :) What a sleeper hit, and such amazing racing.

Yep, nothing like it - and you can see the sparks and stuff flying off the bumper and when it finally falls off it still stays at that place on the track throughout the race.

My fav though is when the hood jars loose, and starts to lurch up gradually before it flies off completely. I also love night races; pull in front of another guy and hit the brakes, he smashes out his headlights and goes flying into a tire wall ;)

God bless Codemasters in general...

Face it.  Its Codemasters that makes this game so sweet.  They\'ve done it before with the TOCA series.  J&L just added an american paintjob to an otherwise tight-a$$ racing game!

Another point of great sweetness, fun, exuberance, giddiness, and general "whoo-hoo" is racing this series inside the vehicle.  Never better a time have I had believing I\'m truely inside the beast, then when I\'m rubbin\' in the corners with 6 (nevermind that the game handles, what, as many as 12?) competitors at the same time on the track!  And talk about AI!!!  Just plain mean...and they *remember* your a$$ too!!!  Well done Codemasters!  Polyphony might have the ga-ga factor pushed to the max on their cherry GT3, but if they could make their AI work this well and give me "behind-the-wheel" perspective as raw as this game, THEN I\'d be properly impressed.   [I apologizes for offending any GT3 fans...as a racing fan I plan on getting GT3 also.  But if you have not played J&L, then please don\'t try to argue this point]

Giving the PS2 its props, I *would* like to thank Sony again for for its graphical enhancement smoothing feature for which J&L achieves due benefit.

Yeah, that\'s a good point W1ngman, all the major sites talk about Polyphony\'s proposed AI as if it\'s a new innovation, but it\'s present and pretty damn vicious in J&L.

I just wish J&L had better marketing, not only does it have killer graphics and gameplay, it\'s got a decent selection of cars and tons of courses! If they had of stuck a EA Sports or some other major logo over Codemasters it would have sold truckloads.

I can\'t wait for Codemasters to make a PS2 racing game. Colin McRae 2 is bloody addictive too.

Have not tried Colin McRae 2 yet...proly should just always h8d those "totally dirt" racers (only experiences I\'ve had with such racers have left me feeling like I\'m sliding too much all over the place).

One [small] gripe with all the Codemasters (including J&L) is the lack of a really *great* replay feature.  For me, that\'s one personal extra I enjoy in a solid racer...the ability to review my victories in all their glory.  Some racers do that very well (case in point, the GT series).  That would be one area I think Codemasters could improve on.

I don\'t spend too much time with the replays, but J&L\'s seemed respectable to me - but like you said, nothing spectacular.

Be sure to give Colin McRae 2 a test drive, it\'s incredible - I wasn\'t too much of a rally fan, but the game really sucks you in. The handling and physics are magnificent.

Has anyone played NASCAR 4 for the PC?  Not only does it have damage, but if you are in the wrong gear you can blow the engine.  It is one of the most realistic racing games ever made.

Also, NFS:HS and PU both had visible damage and some of the manufacturers in those games include;

Daimler Chrysler
BMW
GM
McLaren
Porsche
Ferrari
Aston Martin
Jaguar
Lamborghini

Colin McRae Rally 2.0 also has visible damage and the following manufacturers are in that game;

Ford
Lancia
Mitsubishi
Peugeot
MG
Cooper
Seat
Subaru
Toyota

That is nearly every manufacturer that is in GT3 when you include J&L.  I wonder if because of one or two holdouts they couldn\'t include it?
