if you want a good example of a Sony\'s device changing the way we play games now,just check out the last controller for the PSX. it was not an original device of the PSX yet all games pretty much were developed to use it and just about every owner of the console had it

NO, not every Playstation owner had a Dual Shock, about a 1 in 4 PS owners had one based on sales figures for the controller. Another thing that seperates the HD from the Dual Shock is you only needed the Dual Shock for 2 games to my knowledge: Ape Escape and Stunt Copter, which both sold like crap.

most everyone saying this will fail like the 32x or whatever,are not regular Playstation users / owners / supporters,most were / are persons who are formally Sega / Nintendo followers.

So I guess I should just trust the hardcore Sony fanboys from now on then? The truth is I play just about everything. I dont have a favorite system based on which company made it, I base my opinion on the games. Right now the PS2 has the best games, but that could change. And if it does I\'m going to scurry on over to that system. I just give my opinion as I see it, and where I sit it looks like its going to fail. I know I dont plan on buying one anytime soon.

It amazes me that Sony didn\'t take note of all the past add-on failures. The HD is about guranteed to fail. First off, price wise, there is no way they can sell 40 gigs for $50 dollars, unless they want to take a huge loss in money. Second, they have to make some killer "apps" for it. NO one is going to want it, if there is not a bunch of exclusive games that demand the HD. Otherwise, it is optional, and for most people, if they have to pay for something optional--they won\'t.

As for calling the dual shock an add-on, I don\'t think it really was. STill, if you want to call it one you can. But, it was also cheaper and it was a controller. Now, while it may be an add-on, most people just looked at it as a enhanced controller. IN the general public\'s eye, that is a far cry from an add-on, unlike the HD.  MOst of the general public will see it , then remember spending $300 on the PS2 itself, and turn away.

Sony is going to have a hard time proving that the HD is worth having and it fails, like I suspect it will, it will hurt their reputation alot. Personally, I think Sony should drop the idea of the HD all together or just release it in JApan only, like Nintendo did with the 64DD.

The ethernet card should sell though. Everyone with broadband , will want to use it. Problem is, how many users actually have broadband? Broadband is still missing in rural areas, for the most part.

Uh? No company has really pulled off a succesful add-on. How about the Jaguar CD? 3DO\'s vaporware "M2? Nintendo\'s 64DD? I could keep listing them. For the most part, people just don\'t want to pay more money for a game system. And until Sony announces a exclusive game that REQUIRES the HD, there is no actual reason to own one.

All I can say is Sony better have some damn impressive announcements for the HD rather soon, before everyone either (1) forgets it or (2) gets annoyed by the idea of an add-on.

...I think in all different way!

The HD will be the Key for better games...and I think Sony will do the right moves to make this add-on very seductive!  How?  Try to imagine,for example,a Game like GT4 where you can download new courses,new cars,where you can personalize your car and exchange it with another car of a friend of yours...that could make a game like GT4 an infinite Game! FAR BETTER!
...or try to imagine the success that Episode-Games could have...Games like The Next Generation Lara or the Lost where you can download new episodes on your HD and you can play a game Ten Times more extensive with the same price!
And however we\'ll see several other applications which will entice People to buy the HD...let\'s wait and see...
The HD is not an add-on like 32X or 64DD...and you know it very well Living-in-Clip !  

(However I\'m confident that Sony at first will spread the HD at a competitive price and later they will release the New Models with the HD built-in)

it\'s not a sell,it is already a reality as i stated pc gamers are already experience this type of gaming because of these items and it\'s a huge market,console gamers are waiting for this kind of gaming (just because you have no vision for it doesn\'t mean the majority of gamers are not).

where is your link,a url at some stinking gaming site that took a poll of a couple hundred people? sorry but you\'re wrong here man,plus anyways developers have supported the device in the majority of newer games for the PSX when it was released.

i don\'t know,should you?? well good for you that you play alot of stuff,i\'m so giddy with excitement now. being that you are so knowledgable of the unknown,your vision looks as thick as ever...i will mock you when you see the device come out successful and not let you forget it.

PC users may be able to d/l new levels, but for the most part the levels aren\'t made by the companies that made the game but individuals.  When a company has an expansion pak, they sell it and don\'t give it away.  Do you really think companies are going to waste their time making new levels and just give them away?

where is everybody getting their info from,i\'ve never seen an actual quoted price of a specified drive...and how can you guarentee anything,you are basing everything of the kings of add-on failure companies - Sega and Nintendo respectively. they obviously do not market items right and plan them well beforehand.

it was an add-on,game developers had to have it programmed in,it could not be used fully until that happened. comparing it to a hard drive / online adapter is a far cry because the change is not just enhanced,it is completely something new. i doubt the general public will turn away from a proposed new gaming experience,money is no matter (the same argument Sega followers used saying PS2 would flop because of the price,lame purely lame!) if you want something new,it will be a wanted item

thank God some people in the scene decided to stay out of the gaming industry or we\'d have a bunch of narrowminded views at these companies and things would be stagnate

i wouldn\'t base things on how those companies opreated things,only N64 was a successful console but they didn\'t not market to a general market,mostly had been a kid\'s market and we know kids do not have the money to supply add-on devices or even have that sort of interest...

As I stated earlier, the HD is the next 32x or Sega CD. And until Sony comes up comes up with a compelling reason to own one, there is no actual positive to it.

I don\'t care how popular the PS2 is, it doesn\'t make everyone want to own a HD. People already spent $300 on the system and if a HD comes out within a year people are going to be upset. Who can blame them? People keep yacking about how much the Xbox *may* cost, but how much is the PS2 going to cost once you add the HD and broadband?

Answer: Too damn much .

They could sell the broadband adapter easy. $50 dollars for a simple adapter, for broadband users could use it.
