Well, ok, but still, it\'s not a bad thing if your a big fan of the game/series like me with TR. A radical change, possibly like the upcoming TR, could change what I like about it. I don\'t like the sound of adding more action, or making Lara and the game \'edgy\' and \'dark\'. Sometimes its best not to change things too much. Like all the FF fans screamed at me when I was critisizing the FF series.

I agree with that guy 100%, i\'m sick of tomb raider and i\'m sick of endless red alert clones and crappy army men games.

Luckily there are some developers out there that try to innovate. Kojima, Suzuki, miyamoto and Moneleux (?) come to mind

Molyneux, Metal Gear Ray - I think you meant Peter Molyneux. :)

But, hype happens - and so did happen to Molyneux\'s Black and White. It was hyped to be THE game PC needs - the messiah game wich\'ll show us really great ideas. But it turned out to be just a mix up of old Molyneux-games. I do know that, because I read 3 years every month an article about making of Black and White ( came with a finnish magazine called Pelit ) - and I remember what Peter promised. He promised an universe full of possibilities, but what did we get? An improved Populous.

Another thing is, you shouldn\'t promise much and hype your game if you\'re not 100% sure it\'s going to fulfill the words you say about it - or else the disappointment will be big.

Daikatana, for one, promised a lot - and was very much hyped, but turned out to be just another 3d-shoot-em-up, and a bad one even.

Sequels can be either good idea, bad idea or then just repeating. This has happened to TR. The sequels are just packages of new levels, few new weapons, and maybe a little brighter enemies. I don\'t say the serie is bad, but it sure gets repetitive - I can\'t separate wich TR is best - as there isn\'t much difference - but it was the first one wich kicked the most, as it was quite fresh and new when it came out. That\'s why it sold. The second one wasn\'t bad, the first sequel, and it sold as well - and TR got a reputation. And now it sells \'cause of the reputation, and the name. Core knows this, and is too lazy to show us anything innovative - they just repeat the old formula, as they\'ve found it money-making.

What is this world coming to, as games are being produced for money, not for entertainment?

Yep, just like what happened with The Bouncer.  It turned out very dissapointing.

Darth Joyda:  I think your comment about Black and White not living up to it\'s hype may be true for you, but it won\'t affect most people who end up playing that game.  Right now there are articles about B&W appearing in the LA Times, NY Times, Salon.com... just about everywhere in the general media.  That, plus aggressive pricing means the game will do very well, and it will cross over to a vast group of computer users who don\'t often buy games, and definitely don\'t read magazines that have been providing Peter Molyneux  development updates for the last three years.  These are the same people who buy Tomb Raider as a christmas gift because it\'s one of the few computer games they\'ve heard of.  Most of the people who end up playing this game won\'t be disappointed because they\'ve never played Populous, and they have not idea what to expect.

On an unrelated note:  Sometimes sequels are needed to reach the unfulfilled possibilities of a game concept.  For example, Red Alert was much better than Command & Conquer, AND.... I\'m still waiting for the ultimate, perfect incarnation of Civilization.  As far as I\'m concerned Civ II is still the best you can get, and it has major weaknesses.
