yup you are right, the graphics are good but the gameplay is what really shines! It takes you hours just to complete one mission, its really that  hard! :) I like it!

Damn, I have to post this AGAIN.  The game is not prerendered like the original, it is completely 3d.

from gamespot;

"However, in designing the sequel, the developers at Pyro completely scrapped the graphics engine of the original game in favor of a brand-new one. The results are truly outstanding. The resolution has been upped from Commandos\' meager 640x480 to a more acceptable 1024x768, which makes it possible to view a wider area of the game\'s breathtaking vistas and expansive cities. And while the game is still played from a locked isometric camera angle, all of the terrain and buildings are actually rendered in 3D polygons. To better appreciate the game\'s beauty, you have the option of constantly adjusting your perspective 90 degrees for a total of four different angles. Were it not for this feature, the benefits of rendering the levels in Commands 2 using 3D technology, as opposed to prerendering an entire image onto a two-dimensional canvas, would be lost on the game."

Well a few more questions then.

1.) TV resolution is 640 X 480 so how is this going to work

2.) How come in full 3D this game looks better then almost every other game on the market with texture\'s on the PS2 version yet to be matched IMO

3.) How come the 3 versions look identical when the 3 machines have major differences ???????

I find that hard to beliefe,..I mean no console or pc can do that in 3d realtime polygons. look at it, is every single tile stone and bush 3d? I think not

EDIT

ddaryl great points, DC and ps2 or even xbox could never do that in real time. And yes commandos 1 could do a resolution of 1024 x 768 But with a chunky framerate.

Still don\'t believe me?  Go to Eidos\' site.

"Completely new 3D engine provides the ability to rotate the environment 360° and move seamlessly in/out of buildings, submarines, planes and under water."

its not that I don\'t believe your info, but you have to admit there\'s something fishy here. No way all 3 versions look identical.

Yeah, the screens are probably all from the same version, most likely the PC.

But we have already seen official ps2-pics of the game - and they do look as good as the pc-ones. Or is Eidos just fooling around and mistakenly named the PC-shots to be PS2-shots as well?

Anyways - I\'ll get this game. But it MUST support a mouse, or I\'m out. Commandos is much easier to play w/ a mouse, if Eidos haven\'t made up a really good controlling system for Dual Shock 2.

Commandos 2 is on top of my waiting list - Commandos was one of the most original and best titles when it came out - but if it just can work in my computer... I will have a hard time deciding wich version to buy :)

a.) I think Eidos is yanking our chain just look at the DC pics above no change at all.

b.) IGN or DR did a preivew of this game and said the PS2 interface was a joy to play with the DS, and actually better. Take it with a grain of salt but screw mouse and keyboard on a console. Where the hell you gonna play on your coffee table or carpet, that\'ll be fun.

I\'m looking forward to the game as well, but the games new scheduled release puts it in the middle of great game central.

I agree with that - but you can solve those problems out if you really want :)

Anyways, I\'m glad to hear the interface of the game has been praised already.

Commandos is a game from Pyro Studios, a Spanish team, so i\'ve read lots of interviews about the game.

As far as i know, the graphics are a mix of animated pre-rendered backgrounds and 3D objects/vehicles/characters. Due all the interactive elements are being rendered in real-time the actual engine gives you the possibilty to choose 4 different views on every location( this wasn\'t possible in the previous Commandos \'cos all was 2D).

Also, in Commandos 2 you can enter in every building/submarine/prison. When you do this, the pre-rendered backgrounds are replaced for detailed 3D models of the rooms so you can rotate the camera( or let the camera system follow your actions). Even when you look through a window you could see the movements of the guards outside or use the sniper to eliminate one of your targets( zoom included).

Anyways, the best thing about Commandos is the gameplay. It\'s one of the most addictive games i\'ve played.
Whatever

And if that isn\'t enough, you could do things like release food when you\'re in the water and then use the surrounding fish to hide you from the guards.

The number of posibilities to end every mission is astounding.
Whatever
