Since the NBA will launch new rules starting in August 2001, when the NBA preseason starts.  I was wondering will EA have to create a new engine to import the new rules, and change the style of play, or can they do that without going through a new engine.

Here you go:

The changes are:

Eliminating all existing illegal defense guidelines.

Establishing a defensive 3-second rule, limiting the amount of time a defensive player may stand in the lane when he is not closely guarding someone.

Reducing from 10 seconds to 8 seconds the amount of time a team will have to advance the ball past midcourt.

Eliminating touch fouls by allowing brief contact initiated by a defensive player if it does not impede the progress of the player with the ball.

Yep, expect the game to change as well.

Personally, I\'m against the Illegal Defense rule.  I like seeing players go Iso.  That makes the good players even more exciting, but I\'m sure they\'ll still be able to find a way to score.
It seems as if the people [casual gamers] that we consider to know absolutely nothing are the ones that actually know the most important thing: Name brands don\'t make the console, games do.

I DON\'T LIKE IS ONE MAKE IT TOO TOUGH FOR THE DEFENSIVE.

Reducing from 10 seconds to 8 seconds the amount of time a team will have to advance the ball past midcourt.

THAT RULE IS ALREADY IN PLACE AT MY BASKETBALL GAMES

Eliminating touch fouls by allowing brief contact initiated by a defensive player if it does not impede the progress of the player with the ball.

THAT AWESOME, I HATE IT WHEN I GET FOUL ALL THE TIME JUST FOR A LITTLE TOUCH ON SOMEONE HAND.

Hope they introduce that rule into my basketball games.

Go WolfPacs, that my team anyway, I play in the liverpool first division basketball team.

Thank god they got rid of the touch foul rule, expect a huge rating for the NBA when it starts.

Yeah!  Changes will be made, to be honest, the new rules can be set using the current games engine anyway.  It\'s the easiest job they can do.

Yep, but the sytle of play will need changes to it too, because the way these guys play right now, will be totally different next year.
