DVD playback Problem
« on: May 06, 2001, 03:34:15 PM »
hello,
i was trying to watch Coyote Ugly, it works till it passes the half way point then the ps2 starts making a clicking sound, it keeps on working for a while then it says it cannot play disc. Then i try it again and the same thing happens. The movie plays well in my other DVD player.

what should i do, is it the movie or the ps2, i can\'t return it back to futureshop because its been a couple of weeks already.

Is this a common problem or is there something wrong with my ps2...this is the first DVD movie that i have tried.

any info would be appreciated.

thanks.

you should try other dvd\'s. if the same thing occurs, call  the tech support at sony, and if youre ps2 is less than 90 days old.. they will fix it without charge. :D

My PS2 had problems playing Dual layered gold-backed DVDs.  I had to send it in for repairs.

Some discs are made bad, but if you continue to have problems with gold,dual-layered DVDs, call SONY.

i guess what i\'ll try to do is call sony, if they recommend that i send it in, then i will try to swap it for anothe one at futureshop, they have a 2 week return policy, but my ps2 is less than a month old, so i might still be able to swap for another one, i would hope so.

Call them now, Sony tech I mean.  I made the mistake of thinking this was an isolated occurence and didn\'t take action right away, this was a couple of months ago.  Unfortunately it wasn\'t an isolated occurence and I\'ve had about five DVD\'s give me absolute fits and lately some of my games have been spotty as well.

Fortunately I bought the extended warranty at Best Buy so I can get the problem taken care of.  Definitely get it attended to ASAP, or try to swap it out at least...

Quit wining. No, I\'m just kidding actually. Sometimes DVDs are messed up for other reasons. I don\'t think the PS2 has that seamless branching ability that other DVD players have. Hopefully all this crap will be added in the update

i am more curious since the DVD plays fine in my stand alone DVD player.....

anyways, i called sony, they told me to send it in.
i will try to swap it for a new one where i bought it ,if not then i can just deliver it to sony since i live not to far from one of their service centers.

if it was like a skip or something minor like that then i wouldn\'t really care about it, but when it doesn\'t want to play anymore then i consider that a major problem.

It is sort of odd that it happens half way through, you really ought to try (a) other DVDs and (b) really cleaning the DVD (remember, from the center out, never around) with armorall.  If futureshop is willing to exchange (and usually these stores are willing to ignore a strict 14 day policy), then you should for sure get a new one though.

DVD\'s can be dodgee due to the specification of the format. This means some DVD\'s play really poor in some players whilst in others they play fine. However this is no excuse for the so called poorly made PS2s which don\'t work.

I would try this DVD in another PS2 is possible, if it works fine in this second PS2 you know its your own. If you don\'t have access to a second PS2 try and take the DVD disc into the shop and get the store clerk to test it on a display model.

Try another disc, if this works fine there should be no problem.

The only time I would send it back is if, nearly all DVDs in your collection are having problems (theres something wrong there), or this particular disc works perfect in another PS2.

Either way good luck.

i went to futureshop today, they gave me a new one without any hassles, which i was surprised.

I tried the same Dvd movie and it played perfectly.

i called sony back telling them that i wouldn\'t be sending it in and they were happy for me that the store exchanged it for a new one.
