Square\'s E3 lineup....

Square\'s booth at E3 has had a tradition of being rather understated. Sure, there\'s the sweet movie theatre that has a great synched up a/v presentation, but the games outside rarely reach double-digit numbers. This year is no exception, but luckily, the lower numbers mean more time with one of the more hotly anticipated PS2 games, a movie that could end up blowing everyone away and less work for the stunningly kick-ass PR department (hopefully). Square revealed the E3 2001 lineup this morning, and the games that\'ll be on show, while few, promise to tickle the fancies of nostalgic and bleeding-edge gamers alike.

First up, the waning PlayStation will (FINALLY!) see the release of Final Fantasy Chronicles: Final Fantasy IV & Chrono Trigger[/b] (yes, that\'s the full title). This brings back two of the hands-down best games on the SNES and allows some of the younger gamers out there to experience what was probably the first Square RPG to seriously hook players in the 16-bit era, Final Fantasy IV (known as Final Fantasy II in the States, which oddly enough, was left out of the Final Fantasy Anthology here in the US, but included with the Japanese release), and the uber-sweet Chrono Trigger, still considered by many to be their favorite game of all time. Both games have been retranslated by the amazing team that\'s been helming translation duties for Square\'s US releases since Vagrant Story.

The PS2 will be showcased by a single game, but that game could have the potential to be a stronger testament to the system\'s power than any before it. Final Fantasy X will be fully playable, and will offer the first real glimpse at US code for many lucky showgoers.

In the aforementioned movie theatre will be a snippet from the grandaddy of all CG movies, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. If you haven\'t seen the trailer for this movie (and if you haven\'t, what\'s wrong with you?), just DOWNLOAD THAT SUCKER. If anyone ever had any doubts about the action part of this movie, they\'ll pretty much be crushed by the trailer. In all, despite a smaller list of titles than in past years, something tells me Square won\'t have any trouble drawing crowds at their booth. We\'ll have the full skinny come May 17th.

I bolded the most important parts (IMO).

Heh heh, finally, we get FFIV.. and no more running back to my SNES or computer emulator to play chrono trigger!  I\'m sooo glad they\'re releasing those!

Anybody here who hasn\'t (for some ungodly reason) downloaded the lastest, 40 meg trailer from the Final Fantasy movie, it\'s link is right here for ya.  It\'s worth downloading, even if it takes you 134 minutes (@ 5k/s).
