Brief: Capcom\'s newest entry into the Ghosts & Goblins universe, and best PS2 game of the show thus far, gets play tested by Craig.

It\'s been rumored for years that Capcom was in the process of creating a sequel to the beloved Ghouls & Ghosts. Originally thought to be coming to the N64, the game has finally been realized on the powerful PS2. If you liked the other games in the series, this one will instantly become your favorite game on the PS2.
Talking with David Siller from Capcom before the show, he was already pumped about his new game. He wanted to stress that the game is completely focused on action. Even though the game is displayed in the now-usual 3D environment, it plays as smoothly as its 2D counterparts. No need to worry about crappy camera angles. No fuss with slowly making your way through the levels. This game is extremely easy to pick up and play without the complicated play mechanics found in so many 3D games these days. Really, there hasn\'t been too many 3D action games out there. They usually end up being adventure games where you have to collect X amount of items to complete the level. Maximo brings a fresh change to the 3D universe and it has the graphics, gameplay, and music to make it one of the strongest games coming out this Fall for PS2.

The graphics suit the game nicely. Remember in the 2D versions of the games you\'d be walking around and the ground would suddenly shift up, or sometimes fall down creating a pit? Same thing happens here. Coffins raise up out of the ground yielding new enemies and headstones can be hit with your sword to reveal potions and coins. Coins can be used to purchase upgraded equipment, like armor, shields, etc. As you take damage you will start to lose some of your armor and shield. If you take enough damage you\'ll be running around in just your boxers (white with little red hearts on them). The graphics are very detailed and the framerate is fast. The camera was never a problem while playing, but you can move it behind you if you so desire.

The music is just as eerie and cool sounding as the previous versions. The E3 show is very noisy so I\'d only hear the music every now and then, but from what I heard it shouldn\'t be a problem. Not since Mario 64 was I so impressed with the transition of a 2D game into 3D. Even Mario 64 suffered from some camera problems and tedious camera positioning. It appears the developers at Capcom have outdone themselves in this department. After all, you don\'t want to be worrying about camera placement while you\'re in the middle of slicing a zombie in half.

I\'ve played a lot of games over the past 2 days, many of them PS2 games. Maximo is by far and away the most fun I\'ve had with any of the PS2 games and is sure to be a hit when it releases this Fall or early 2002. I can\'t wait to get my hands on the final build of this game!

Another game to look out for,they are comming thick and fast now,hold on to your seats people,it\'s gonna be a bumpy ride.
On the 15 of March 2002, i was going to leave these forums for good.
But on the 16 of March i realised i couldn\'t ever say bye to you guys, so i am staying here for good!

A few videos I saw the game looked pretty cool, but wasn\'t as visually pleasing as other games.

Gameplay looked cool. Never played the original. I\'d have to see more gameplay movies in higher quality and hear more preview info on the game

the originals on the snes and nes was one of the best platform games ever released on a system. I\'ll keep an eye on this one

cool!!!!!!!!  I played the genesis version and thought it was one of the best plaformers ever.  It was also very hard too.  I\'m getting maximo the day it comes out.
