Do you think developers like the ps2 now?
« Reply #15 on: May 22, 2001, 08:03:07 AM »
Sony are currently offering loads of support in training developers to get the most out of the development kits soooo maybe theyd prefer to program something else, but I think they defo respect Sony and appreciate the support.... so mixed bag but generally good I reckon.

Although I work for Sony, I work in the broadcast side of things so I do get info but unfortunately its limited.

The PS2 is not like the Saturn situation nor the N64.
I think the new technical method, the vector units the
streaming texture procedure and stuff, was kinda of a
leap of faith for Sony. Imo they ( Sony ) were a bit to wishfull thinking that devs would like this. It\'s like trying a whole community, in this case the developers industry,
to change their ways/thinking. Ppl like to stick a bit to known things : thus opting for XBOX\'s direct X.
So to conclude I say that Sony made , even though they have such a strong brandname, a bit of risky hardware choice.
Ppl who are against Sony/playstation will argue that PS2 is the new "Saturn", but that\'s not the case.

I think they like the fact of the huge installed user base, which in turns gives them a better profit margin. As for developing games for the PS2, well we all know it\'s a ***** to program for. Developers like to make money and Psx2 is safe bet for now, untill the next gen consoles comes, cause who knows what the future brings.

...if you think that X-Box will be much easier to develop for you are a Fool !...after reading the latest from Kojima.....

Go back to that thread about what Kojima said, please do that before responding any further.

...Well...definitely a LOT more than they used to. And the games coming out now aren\'t crap, so I think the future of PlayStation 2 is very bright.

All the products we are seeing these days started devolopement before the ps2 was released [ NA ]. Any devolopers that jump of the wagon because of difficulty in Hardware, probably lacked the talent to make a descent game anyways. No loss to me eitehr way.

That\'s your definition? How odd, I thought developers were trying to make a interesting and entertaining product...

Correct me if I am wrong but that\'s from Diablo. Diablo himself.

Nope, you heard it here first. They just want to try and conquer the difficulties of programming with something new. Innovation and quality means nothing.
