Purchasing used PS2 games
« on: May 29, 2001, 03:13:14 PM »
Local video stores sell previously rented PS2 games.  However, they place these security stickers one them that throws off the center balance of the disk which can in turn cause it to "wobble" in my PS2 drive (sometimes makes a loud sound, ala CD-ROM drive in my PC).  I am concerned that this will damage or prematurely wear-out the drive.  Is this a valid concern?  Any comments or recommendations?  Many thanks in advance.

Yes this is definetly a concern, i have heard many complaints about this and i would never purchase a game from a video store, the only way i would purchase a used video game is if it was from my friend who i knew and trusted.

Well if you buy the game then just take the sticker off - no biggie

or else just buy the game from a different store - and there is nothing wrong with buying used games if the price is right - just check the condition of the game before you buy it

Some of the games you cant take the sticker off cause the whole disk is covered in some kind of protection thing. The stickers are under those things. It says not to remove the protection case cause you will damage the disk.

As long as the whole disc is covered then it\'s fine.  Every disc I have ever rented the label is over the whole disc.  Nothing wrong with that.  It doesn\'t throw off the balance or anything.  It\'s when one side is heavier then the other side that causes probs.

Why do video rental shops do that? Its so irritating, someone should go and stick a security tag on the side of them, see how they like being weighed down on one side all the time
