News about the next Perfect Dark game!!!
« on: June 11, 2001, 11:42:37 AM »
It\'s about ****ing time we heard something new about this game. It wasn\'t showned at E3 and it was rumoured to be a launch title. Now here are some new facts about one of my most anticipated games.

Quote
Believe it or not, Joanna Dark is going to be coming to theatres and TV! Fireworks Entertainment and Goodman Rosen Prods have optioned the television and movie rights to “Perfect Dark.” A press release issued today covers all the details, and also mentions that the Perfect Dark sequel is on track for Fall 2002.

Thanks to Richard Cudney for pointing this out to us!

Now, here’s that press release:

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Fireworks Entertainment and Goodman Rosen Prods. have optioned the television and movie rights to the best selling Nintendo video game ``Perfect Dark.\'\'

The duo behind the syndicated television action hours ``Relic Hunter,\'\' ``Andromeda,\'\' ``Highlander\'\' and ``The Lost World\'\' could bow their live action ``Perfect Dark\'\' series as early as fall 2002.

A feature film, based on the sci-fi game that follows an action heroine named Joanna Dark, is also being planned.

U.S. consumers have spent more than $55 million on more than 1 million units of ``Perfect Dark,\'\' according to NPD TRSTS Video Games Service.

For Nintendo, better known for its G-rated games and characters such as ``Super Mario Brothers\'\' and \'\'Pokemon,\'\' the ``Perfect Dark\'\' title marked its first attempt to reach an older demographic. Due to its violent content, the game was rated Mature by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, limiting sales to consumers 17 and older. Fireworks and Goodman Rosen optioned the rights from Rare, which developed the game, and 4 Kids Entertainment (behind the ``Pokemon\'\' TV series and movies), which represents Nintendo and Rare for global merchandise licensing and domestic TV movie distribution and production.

Fireworks and Goodman Rosen, which have brought scribe-producer Peter Lenkov (\'\'Demolition Man,\'\' TV\'s ``La Femme Nikita\'\') aboard, will begin heavily shopping the property around this month, following the release of Paramount\'s movie version of video game ``Tomb Raider.\'\' Similar to that vidgame-based project, ``Perfect Dark\'\' features a sexy young female who works as a secret agent for an industrial conglomerate known as the Carrington Institute.

Set in 2023, vidgame begins as an investigation of rival DataDyne Corp. and then unravels into an alien plot to invade Earth.

Rare is currently developing a ``Perfect Dark\'\' sequel, slated for a fall 2002 release on the Gamecube console.

A movie and a show? **** that, all video game shows and movies suck horribly(except the Sonic ones, they kicked ass at the time!).

Atleast we know when the game is. Although the news is kind of depressing since I was hoping for a summer 2002 release, it will give Rare more time to make the game as \'perfect\' as possible. I suspect that it\'s going to have a geo-mode , more weapons and vehicles, a better story, a bomb ass mutiplayer, and online play. I hope it will still have the replay value that made PD and GE great.

This game will kick ass. Rare made two awesome first-persons shooters on an inferior system but they\'re still arguably the best console FPS to date. I\'ll definitely be purchasing this game on it\'s release.

That movie looks awesome!
I wish they hadnt named it final fantasy, cause I think that it is typecasting that movie.

well i guess thats good news

and yea i agree about the the title for FF:Spirits Within - it seems to have nothing to do with final fantasy - i mean why name it that than to draw more attention to the game series and also draw attention from the game series\' fans

i personally wish that sqaure would make a cg movie of a final fantasy game or a that type of game

The Final Fantasy movie got bad reviews in Japan. It\'ll probably get rave reviews here just because its 3D.

Well, arguably the best console fps\'s to date. I don\'t think PD or Goldeneye really hold a candle to some of the better PC efforts.. but they are damn good games none-the-less. I would have hoped for a Fall 2001 release.. but I guess that\'s asking a bit much. The TV show and Movie don\'t do a thing to spark my interest though.

I was thinking the same thing. Why Rare? Why?

Seriously when it comes to fun factor Goldeneye and PD are 2 of the best all time console FPS. I won\'t say THE best; but they are up there.
