What confusion?  I replied to the Famitsu poll and you told me to shut up.  No confusion there.

By the way, I just read the other reader polls and while the second one was convincing, the first one had 51% not buying the Xbox, but 49% at least thinking about it.  It wasn\'t as lopsided a poll as it looked.  If that scenario held true, Xbox would hold roughly 40% of the marketshare, going directly against the other polls.  That just shows you what little use polls can be, I guess...  Interesting, sure, but we can\'t put too much value in them.

Oh, and if you wonder where I stand, I would have said "I won\'t buy an Xbox," "I think Nintendo will be on top" and I think the global, overall (for the entire generation, not just for year end which would obviously be lopsided) market share for hardware will end up at something like Nintendo 40%, PS2 40%, and Xbox 20%.  I think Nintendo and Microsoft will really slow Sony\'s sell-through rate, and that Nintendo will end up raking in the most through software.

true, but expect over 20 million PS2 users in 2002 when Xbox and Gamecube have already been out.

Then in October when the PS2 turn 2 years old it will have over 30 Million, I\'m sorry but you cannot slow this big baby down.

And if they cut the price, oh lord, do u know how many PSX owners that are waiting for a price cut??????  Another sack of users.

And I do agree with all of you on this, that these polls don\'t mean jack.

I agree ps2 has been selling like mad  since march 4, 2000(japanese launch) and hasn\'t slowed down since.  Once sony lowers the price thats really going to make it sell.  Come fall 2001 ps2 looks almost unstoppable with games like gt3, mgs2, dmc, snkvs.capcom2, tekken 4, jax and dexter, and well you guys get the point.  I still will try to get a xbox maybe at launch, but right now ps2 is looking like the king.

ok, first off, polls dont mean ****. that pool you talked about that was made in this forum had its members mostly comprised of hardcore gamers. they usually buy all the systems, anyways.

polls dont mean a thing. i like sony a little bit more than the others, but i try my best not to be biased.
but just because i favor sony a little dosent stop me from saying, that "wasnt this poll taken in japan?"
well if the awnser is yes, well it is obvious why the poll is tilted the way it is, sony OWNS  japan. period.

why you went out of youre way, to get a poll from japan, to show us, is confusing me.

also,

what does that prove? do you truely love being a fanboy?  you will have no respect.(and as of now i bet many of the regulars respect you as much as they respect any other fanboy.)
IM BACK. you have a problem with that? get in the back.

I find it hard to swallow that the PS2\'s userbase will double in a matter of months. The main reason that the PS2 sold so well was because it came riding on hype, but that hype\'s slowly fading out now. By the time the GC and the X-Box launches, each console\'s sales will be on par with each other, so I wouldn\'t expect the PS2 to sell as well as it did in its first year.

With a price drop for this holiday season and its large library of games, no hardware shortages and  the SOny Playstation name I fully expect the PS2 to be at or over 20 million worldwide by Xmas 2001

30 million by Xmas 2002 is very forseeable, and I seriously doubt XBox sales will be on par with Nintendo and SOny this year.

To most people, this is how it goes: new = good. You can\'t expect the PS2 to sell at the same rate as it did during its first year with two brand new consoles (and well-anticipated, I might add) as competition. Sony\'s price cut will give the PS2 an advantage, but I think it\'ll take more than that to stop two behemoth launches, lacking any known hardware shortages and game quantity. (For example, FF8 was released on 9/9/99, but that didn\'t stop the DC from flying off the shelves).

IMO, I think Nintendo will be the one trailing behind. The X-Box is getting a lot of Japanese third-party support (Most notably, Sega) as well as a horde of American developers, which would eliminate any shortage of games. It\'s got the power of the MS name behind it, and you know that means money will be flooding from the bank. Taco Bell is also lending a hand in helping spread the word about the console.

Nintendo on the other hand, has the least amount of financial ammo (which in turn, might result in the weakest advertising), no DVD/CD compability, and the "kiddy" image to cleanse. With all this going against them, I\'d say Nintendo\'s got a tough fight ahead againt MS and Sony.

Well that is rather hopeful and fanboyish. You have no Idea how the general public will take to GCN OR XBOX. And second 20 million world wide bye xmas 2001 I doub that. Third how many have actually been sold? All I hear is we have shipped this amount, but how many have sold to the amount that has been shiped?

By frankly Xbox and Gcn  are much stronger console than ps2 is.
Yes ps2 has good titles coming out, but so does everyother freakin console.

You know ps2 is living off the hype of psx. And bye frankly last time around the competition was not this high. Nintendo has much better technology now, and Microsoft has the best.  This will be a heated battle because good titles are appearing on all 3 consoles. But one thing ps2 is missing that Nintendo has and what Microsoft is building. A good first party development team that can make good games. Besides gt sony has nothing else. And 3rd party developers are making their games on XBOX And GCN.  So sony does not even have that when developers are taking their games on all 3 consoles.

So I see no reason for ps2 to be ****y or think the battle is over.

To XBOX:

We haven\'t seen anything from the X-Box first parties yet, so I would hold off that judgement until we\'ve played their games. But the talent is there though, and so is the effort; I\'m anticipating some groundbreaking games from Microsoft.

Despite what most people think, Sony could turn out to be a formidable software company this generation. Like every other developer, they have gained the one element most important to succeed; experience. Neither Nintendo nor Sega made good games from the beginning; they made mistakes, and then they learned. With titles like J&D and GT3, they could be as good a developer as anyone.
But you know as well as anyone that Sony\'s main strength lies in one company; Square. As long as Sony has them exclusive, I don\'t think any number of third parties that MS has could tilt that advantage.

And dreamcast could have out sold sony if they did this and that, but fact is all sony is good for is GT. Nothing else.  Well Ms has bungie which makes Halo, and they have azurik, Amped, Nfl Fever, Project K-x, And Bruce: Lee quest of dragon. All who knows what else they are developing because everthing has not be announced. And I am not saying they are killers now, because frankly I don\'t know. (Well Beside HALO which I know will be killer I can\'t speak for the others) But as I was saying I am just trying to say they are making games. And putting a lot of effort into making them great games. Something that only happens with one sony in house game and that is gt.

Secondly you putting way too much credit on square. FF1,FF3, FF7, were the best of the series.  I thought FF9 was good game, but frankly the best game on ps2 too me is MGS2. From the demo that game is so awesome.  And no other game has my attention like that one. And we all know MGSX is coming to xbox. Nobody knows what type of game it would be, but how dumb would they be to make a old version of the game in 2002.

Don\'t get me wrong I think FFX will be a great game, but MGS2 and FFX are two different types of games and I think MGS2 is the best, but In no means will I skip FFX.

But in any case I am looking for to project EGO which is exclusive too xbox. It has been getting a lot of hype and so much is being but into the gameplay it should be a awesome rpg. Time will tell though, but Project Ego for what information we have seems to be one bad mother.
