DVD won\'t play, games lock up
« on: June 18, 2001, 01:19:14 PM »
MY PS2 sucks!  It worked great in the beginning and now it won\'t recognize DVD\'s and give me a disc read error everytime.

Games lock up in the middle of the game and I have to restart it everytime.

For some reason, all my discs are getting circular scratches on them, which means it\'s the player scratching them.

Frustration!!!!

Sony customer support wants me to mail the whole thing to them and pay them $150 to fix it.   That\'s crap!

Anyone have any ideas?

Do the old switch-a-roo trick at a store like Wal-Mart or any other store that doesn\'t check serial numbers.

Do you have your PS2 horizontal or vertical?

I\'m having the same problems.  I\'m trying to figure out a way to get it fixed for free, but I keep on running into problems.  I agree, this sucks!  Think of how much money Sony is making from doing this.  about 500,000 people (chances are all of the US launch systems will start having these problems soon), and it costs $120 to fix each one.  That is 60 million dollars!  It\'s not fair that the "hardcore gamers" who waited in line for hours and hours, some even days, are getting ripped off like this.  I\'m thinking I will just send a "modified" (wink wink) receipt saying I bought it under 3 months ago.  I usually wouldn\'t cheat a company like that, but this is different.  They are ripping us off.

If you have friends that work at a store that sells PS2s just have them exchange it for a good one.

My friend just had that same problem the other day. He sent his in, maybe you could too, or have it exchanged for a new one. I\'m sorry to hear that. Mine hasn\'t gave me any crap, and I\'ve had it since December. Sorry you didn\'t have the same luck as me...:( Hope everything turns out peachy...:)

I said the same things you guys did, back in January when my PS2 crapped out.  We should think about getting a petition together from members here at the board and sending it to Sony.

Sure makes you wonder...

Sony\'s PS2 has proven to have its problems with reading DVDs & (apparently) even ruining games occasionally.  I only succumbed to the "Unreadable Disc" error roughly 2 months into ownership...but my local TRU store manager was willing to swap me one on a next shipment (which says a lot about that manager given that this happend around the end of November! what with Christmas on its way at that time & all.

But point being... 1st the original PSX had its overheating DESIGN FLAW that caused how many of us have to purchase a new unit (or have it repaired)...and now the PS2 is falling right into step!  Funny thing is,...I really like and support most Sony products!  When did a Walkman or a Discman fail someone?  Or a Sony stereo for that matter.  Amazing how the videogame consoles have such a problem with design integrity...

Picture this: Dave finds an available seat for his \"Aggressive Drivers Anonymous\" encounter group session.   Saying, \"Hello\" he sits amongst his support group of S2K owners...  Smiling, they rock ever-so-gently to and fro in their chairs...humming peacefully...drinking coffee...and rolling little AutoArt & Maisto S2000s across their knees.  At this moment, the group responds in unison, \"Hi, w1ngman!\" :D

The only problem I have is the DVD player won\'t recognize my Halloween 2 DVD. But other than that it works just fine.

Paying to get something fixed just sucks :D
Especially since it was expensive to begin with, ...
I mean if you spill some crap into the PS2 cd tray or what not, but damn, i think this is a Sony "Recognized" problem is it not? I mean if you can get tires replaced, shouldn\'t we get PS2 replaced? or at least fixed? :D
